I was born on November 10, 1967 in the Dutch city of Groningen. The northern provinces of Friesland and Groningen constitute a region that I consider to be my home, and where I feel that I really "belong". I live in the small village of Laren, which lies right in the middle of Holland. I do miss the north, but it is impractical to live in a relatively remote part of the country.
I taught biology and chemistry for 5 years, during which time I also obtained a university degree in biology. Scientifically, I'm interested in the fundamental mathematical, physical and chemical properties of life, but I also have a strong interest in cosmology.
After 5 years I gave up teaching, even though I loved to be in front of a classroom. There just weren't enough career opportunities (I tried to break into the music industry, but that didn't quite work out). Currently I'm a manager with a large IT-services and consultancy firm, a job I enjoy to the fullest.
In my spare time I engage in a number of leisurely activities (music, guitars, books and Fordson tractors). First and foremost, however, I like to spend quality time with my wife Wilma and our three chrildren, Sander, Harold and Anouk.
That's enough banter about me, already! Click away, and enjoy the rest of the site.
