Hydralic pump Q.
Morning again all, The hydraulics on my old FPM seem a bit weak; It works well enough with say a 3-point hayrake, (and the arms stay up ) but won't lift a round bale on the rear fork. It will start to lift, but cuts out before it is quite off the ground. Bales won't be much over 1100 lbs I don't thi...

Valve chest gasket?
Morning all, I would like to ask where I would find a gasket for the valve chest for my FPM? I don't see one in Agriline catalogue. I do have gasket material, but as the old one came off in bits, I'm not sure which areas need to be joined and which not, if you know what I mean! Also, I put the valve...

Re: Going ploughing
Very nice thread, Very interesting thread! Meanwhile here in the colony of western Alberta, weather is still wet! Wet since first week of June. Hay still to be made. Barley dead ripe and breaking down but can't combine till it dries up. Oats flat on some of the land, and undersow growing through. My...

Re: Steering box
I have one on a FSM that may look like that.......it snaps, crackles and pops when turning. Sounds quite arthritic.
Be a winters job though!

Re: Ford 250 T plow/plough??
Morning Brian, Pictures weren't very good, But! I think I got the model number mixed up with the serial # so that wouldn't help! Anyway, I didn't go any further with it as it didn't have a land wheel and I was wanting one for the SM /PM. Clutch works on PM now, after correct adjustment! Thanks Brian...

Re: FPM to work on.
Brian, When clutch pedal all the way up it is 8" above the floorplate. When down to the point of feeling resisitance, it was only about 7 1/2" , so apparently not enough free play. I altered it so it has about 1 1/2" free play measured straight down, and will give it a try ASAP. Thanks again! R. Edi...

Re: FPM to work on.
Brian, I don't know it if we have something odd here as your description of free travel and what I have sound different; There Is about 1 1/2" of free travel before you feel pressure, But, the top of the clutch pedal is about 7" above the footplate, and of course moves forward rather than straight d...

Re: FPM to work on.
Another update. Tried the old PM harrowing, and under load it had a miss still. Took rocker cover off and it had a bent push-rod. All others revolved well and seemed straight Replaced the bent one and no miss. (Res-et clearances) Worked well after that on a brush mower, and left the mower raised and...

Re: FPM to work on.
Rich , Brian, I don't remember the name on our cake crusher, but it ran off an overhead shaft, that also drove a chaffcutter, turnip cutter, buzz saw, roller and a grinder with great big millstones. Grandfather used to 're-cut ' the grooves in the millstones every now and then. Still have the tool f...

Re: FPM to work on.
Rick, At the old farm at Ormesby, (North Riding) we had a cake crusher The cake must have been about 14" wide if I remember right. Tough as nails as you say. The crusher had two rollers or rather spiked cylinders, that broke the cake up as it passed through. It'd be a bit grim id you got your hand i...

Re: FPM to work on.
Rick, Twice I've replied to your post, and it has just disappeared before I could post it! I think I have the old oil cleaned out allright. below oil level it hadn't set, and was mostly a problem in the valve chest and lift cylinder. Flax is grown east of where we are, out on the prairie, but not ar...

Re: FPM to work on.
Thank you for the soap tip, Guduell! Well I have the PTO clutch working. It was out of adjustment. I don't know yet how much life is in it, as the adjuster rod is shorter than the book says. I still have to split it to fix oil seals but will give it a bit of work first and see how it goes. I should ...

Ford 250 T plow/plough??
Evening gents,
I saw a plough advertised fairly locally, a Ford 250 T 4 furrow.
Does anyone know anything about these ploughs? (It's a 3 pt. hitch)
How would it work for a Power Major?
Thanks for any help!
Richard.

Re: FPM to work on.
Thanks for the reply Brian, It is the dual clutch, and will indeed try it on the brush cutter. I will also check the clutch setting and length of rod, now I have found my book again! The pin is in the lower hole Did get drawbar assembly put back , and some add-ons removed, and need to fit the proper...

Re: New plough for Dotty
Reliant Robin?? The only ones I have seen here were on "Mr Bean"!! An old pal at home got one when he was getting on a bit, as he could drive that with his motor-bike licence. It would go anywhere, but I suppose being always full of tools, a gun, feed for his hens, moletraps, and a dead lamb or 'sik...

Re: FPM to work on.
Thanks for the reply & answer, Dave, I thought it may be so, but without the book wasn't sure. PTO question. When I depress clutch , it won't clear, and just grinds when I try to engage the PTO lever. If I stop the engine and pull the lever back, and re-start with clutch down, the PTO is stopped as ...

Re: New plough for Dotty
Rick, I was talking to the next door neighbour this morning, and his dad bought a Super and a Ransomes plough at the same time, but a long time ago! Somehow we got diverted, as I was going to ask if it was still sitting in the weeds somewhere. We have been here for 32 years now, but I suppose most R...

Re: FPM to work on.
And another update; Right, the oil in the rear end and gearbox Was boiled Linseed(!). Don't ask me why. all leaks had set like glazing or icing on a cake, and gummed up the works as well. Got most of it cleaned out, and a new PTO seal fitted, washed Hyd. filter/ screen and such, plus magnets and put...

Re: New plough for Dotty
Looks a grand little plough, Brian.
Will look better when you get the pressure plates set the same.
We had a 3 furrow Robin at one time.
Wish I could find a Ransomes over here for the Major!........even if I Did have to change the back wheels on one of them.

FSM and high idle.
Bit like a soap opera this, (Ongoing!) but still messing when I have time with a FSM. Has a high idle, as in maybe 1/3 throttle. Tac doesn't work so can't say exactly. Tested the injection pump and seems the diaphragm was leaking, so replaced it. No difference, still high idle. Played with the high/...

Re: Rebuild with problems
Billy, That oil looks wonderful to me! In my P-Major, they filled up the gearbox and rear end with boiled Linseed oil!!!! Now, try and get That stuff out! Lost my sense of smell largely in a sinus op, but my son confirmed it Is linseed. Worst of it is that as the seal is leaking between gearbox and ...

Re: G'day from a proud owner in Australia
Welcome Andree. Yes, you have come to the right place. Looks a grand tractor. Big strong rear rims on that one. See it has a disc on the back. These tractors work very well with brush mowers. I used to cut all the (farm) yard with a little J-D. ride-on lawnmower. Took forever. now I use a brush mowe...

That's brilliant, and lovely to be able to read the story!!
As a bairn I remember the Lightning coming into production, and how at air-shows the pilots enjoyed scaring the life out of us with the sonic boom!
Great photos both of them!!
Richard.
