high end engine speed too low
the throttle is acting funny but did not used to act funny, above 3/4 of the way from idle towards full throttle the resistance becomes same or slightly less than when set at low idle but above 3/4 throttle the engine reduces rpm's and I think it may be the cause as well of hard starting when engine...

I have some rather strange neighbors one of whom claims she doesn't like competition yet she is the worlds worst there is at farming, well up until I had started hay making my 2 fordsons, one a new major who you folks dated for me last year had b...

My business partner insisted on replacing the nosecone as the original was badly damaged when it was bought in 2012. I do not know whether he misplaced some of the bolts or what happened but I need to know all data for the 2 bolts that hold the back of the nosecone secure as I can not find them anyw...

Re: identifying my fordson diesel & brakes issue
The brakes are adjusted by a star wheel that is acessed through a slot in the brake back plate or by taking the drum cover off and then going in through the hole in the brake drum. The adjuster pushes the shoes closer to the drum. Jack up one side of the tractor and block the other wheels. Turn the...

Re: identifying my fordson diesel & brakes issue
Well, it is certain that you have a replacement engine if your engine number starts with an "S". If your serial number is 1301089 it is a July 1954 tractor. Your casting code should be C27F which would make it a 1961 casting. (G was not used in the casting codes until 1963). H23V is June the 23rd 1...

Hi, This tractors foot brakes are NOT holding if going backwards, the left foot brake is barely working when going forwards IF one stands ALL of their weight upon the foot brake pedal which feels like it is at that time fully against its travel stop though the right foot brake is working very well a...

I have a fordson, it is the one that had originally an optional live pto drive as optional but has a 2 stage clutch in this case which means according to tractordata.com that it was made between 1958-1961 and personally I think it might be a 1961 model if they have the info correct as it has both po...

Re: engine misfiring
the 4 cylinder diesel with pnuematic<sp?> simms injection pump, tractor was dated as a 1954 tractor by this club, you can see the data on it in other posts, anyway the misfiring only happens when nearly at or at full operating temperature, as that happens it lets out black smoke for a few seconds be...

Re: odd tractor behaviour
Must be the steering. Worn out steering is just about controlable at low speed. Faster and the you get a "snaking" effect, like a badly loaded trailer. Stick some weight on the back, mower?, and the problem is ten times worse. Stick some weight on the front, loader?, and it will get ten times bette...

Re: odd tractor behaviour
yes there is steering play and its power assisted steering and to answer another members question I am not sure that the brakes are part of the problem as the last owner tore them apart for some issue and had not enough knowledge to know what he was doing so there are no brakes on that tractor apart...

Re: how to bleed out a major
is there somewhere that can be bought a fuel filtration system that uses a spin-on system using the same old fuel pipes for the fordsons like the mid to late 1970s tractors did because this old style fuel filtration system that uses a bolt from the bottom to hold all in place is a hard to deal with ...
