Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
This was the first attempt using a straight lift using 4" y 2" off the axle trumpets. Didn't work, casting too heavy at the front. The piston and ram sit at the front, https://i.postimg.cc/D0v1tR70/DSCF2800.jpg Used a bit of channel to bring the lifting point forward, https://i.postimg.cc/pXYK2WmT/DS...

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
https://i.postimg.cc/v8gc5QB6/DSCF2792.jpg Thanks for coming back so quickly. I've taken out the spring, looks OK, 60 mm long. Pity I think that would have been the cheap option. My lifting gear is a bit Heath Robinson, so will have to wait for a bit of channel from ebay ,to offset the lifting posi...

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
Summers is here, time to to continue trying to get the hydraulics working. https://i.postimg.cc/zDkQs5C9/DSCF2790.jpg This is a photo of what I think is the control valve. When the selector , by your right hand, is in the up position then the adjustable turnbuckle is up against the spool. If the sel...

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
Found time to look at the tractor at the weekend. The lift arms are still stuck, but have dropped 2 inches under their own weight over 2 weeks. Marked it up on a stick. The other thing i noticed was that there is oil dribbling out of the tipper pipe, that's new. Went to check the auxillary services ...

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
Road run on Sunday, tractor ran very well, brakes worked, diff lock worked, all very satisfactory travelling down lanes, along streams, I explained my problem and a forage harvester was connected to the linkage arms. Even with the two heaviest tractor drivers on site, the lift arms would not drop. S...

Three point linkage stuck up.
When the covid struck, I put the tractor up on axle stands and sheeted her over. Getting it ready for a road run now, all well, but have a hydraulic problem. The lifting arms went up alright. but now they are stuck. They always used to fall under their own weight. Any ideas what is wrong ? Tractor i...

Re: Tombstone
Have just tapped out 54 years of crud from the Tombstone. Used a plug tap 3/4" - 10 tpi UNC. The depth of the hole in the tombstone is 1 1/2" deep. The problem now is to find four 3/4" unc bolts, 1 3/4" or 2" long. The internet offers me expensive Stainless steel bolts , or bolts from the USA with a...

The SPE number for the pump is right for a late Fordson Diesel Major with a MK 1 engine.

Re: Fordson Power Major
There seems to be two types of 3 hole wheels. Put a straight edge across the dust ring on the inner side of the wheel. Measure down to the bearing casting. I've seen two dimensions for this. Early Supermajor and late Supermajor perhaps. Not sure if they both fit on the same kingpins. Anybody know an...

Re: '57 FMD white smoke
You have a quiet coupling on your engine, probably from a lorry or a skid unit; so the timing marks probably won't line up as an agricultural engine would. Does your engine number have an " S " at the beginning ?

PTO PUMP
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n624/supermajor61/PAINTING001.jpg I've just bought a PTO air pump for the Fordson. It was a moment of madness, i was at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, wandering around the autojumble, and it called out to me. Took it home and coupled up the outlet pipes, and surpri...

Re: Chassis number
Your friends tractor may be a 1957 or before tractor, which had the engine number stamped onto a plate which would be rivited to the firewall. If the engine was later changed, then it would end up with two numbers, with the number on the firewall being taken as the chassis number. let us know how th...

Re: Chassis number
The chassis number on a Fordson major is the same as the engine number, there is no chassia number. I've just checked my V5, and the box for the chassis number has the engine number. The box for the engine number is blank. Early majors had the engine number stamped near the starter, and on a plate o...

Thanks Pat and Adrian. Photos help a lot. Changing the bull pinion seal looks straight forward. The photo is of the left side, my interest is to the right where the diff lock is. Reckon i'll have to remove the bull pinion shaft and diff lock assembly to change the seal on the diff lock operating rod...

Super Major brakes.
Its time to fix the brakes on the Supermajor, I'm off on a road run soon, and these brakes need to work. I've done the left hand side. had to free up the clevis pins and fit new linings. it brakes nicely to the left now, disappearing into ditches is now not a problem. The right hand side is the prob...

You say that the cylinder block has FL on it, showing it as a New Performance model. The cylinder head has a decompressor lever fitted. Does the cylinder head have FL cast on it, just above number one injector. Perhaps the cylinder head has been changed ? You have a great project, most of the tracto...

To see if it is steam coming out of the exhaust, hold your hand well above the silencer outlet. If it is steam / water vapour then your hand will get wet.
