Re: Dexta Main bearing block bores
I did get my engine finished in my 1958 Dexta, I had it at a local show yesterday and was complemented on it. I had it fitted with my Ford back blade and leveled the ground between each tractor pull participant, I was complemented on a good job there too. I am considering doing some firebreaks with ...

Dexta bottom hose rubbing the fan belt
I have a problem of the bottom radiator hose of my 1958 Dexta being cut through with the fan belt, my friend has the same problem also in his 1963 NP Dexta. The water pump spout angles forward which seems to make the problem worse. The only way I was able to solve the problem was to cut the hose at ...

Engine block inaccuracies normal
Hi all, I have decided I should inform readers of issues relating to the inaccuracy of engine blocks and additional things that further distort an engine block. First, I will declare that I come from both sides of the fence I have General Motors and Ford products back to the 1920's and will quote as...

Re: Dexta Main bearing block bores
Hi Billy26F5, I have eventually measured the main bearings, and they are out of round, and outside specifications as I suspected, and most likely not aligned with each other either. I phoned the engineers who usually do my main bearing bores and the machining tolerance is 2.9165 to 2.9175 my number ...

Re: Moore Loader industrail clutch set up 1963
Yes I agree, I have already machined it out for the large pin and welded on two plates which are cross drilled to take the retaining pin too. As an update with the front casting info; On page 43 of the January 1963 service manual it explains some of what we have discussed. There were three types of ...

Re: Dexta Main bearing block bores
The previous owner is still furious ( he is in his 80's now ) that he had to fit O.S. O.D bearings and had to get the crank reground when the crank grind was not necessary. He was forced to do all this as the caps were stretched ( as all Majors are ) and he could not get standard size O.S.O.D bearin...

Re: Moore Loader industrail clutch set up 1963
I haven't seen an Ebro, though they were attempts to market them here in Western Australia. Yes I agree they would be reluctant to make the changes in their tooling and the associated costs, ours had the original pin as far as I can tell and it did the job until the tractor needed a complete rebuild...

Re: Moore Loader industrail clutch set up 1963
No that's not right either. Western Australian Fordson tractors were assembled in Welshpool Perth ( I have not yet found another assembly factory in W.A. ) The 1962 on dated Super Major tractor front castings did not have the holes drilled for the earlier radiator, this why there is a subsequent ins...

Re: Moore Loader industrail clutch set up 1963
Hi, Then how do you explain that we have two 1963 Super Majors, and neither have the 08 prefix? Given time I can check the others I have seen for the 08. Oh I forgot to tell you the Malcolm Moore loader did not have Power steering, despite being a hydraulic loader. Some of the Malcolm Moore equipmen...

Fordson and Dexta clutch pilot bearing causing shaft damage
Hi, I would like to bring to the attention of others that the ball bearings fitted to a great many Fordsons and Dextas have been damaging the front gearbox input shafts for over 60 years. The reason for the damage to the spigot of the front gearbox shaft/ clutch shaft is that Ford must have had a sp...

Re: Moore Loader industrail clutch set up 1963
Thanks for your reply, As you have probably guessed by now my son and I have a few Fordsons of various models, 1934 to 1963. The engine number does not have the 08 country code, block acid dipped -it was never there, and the driveline will have been imported especially for Malcolm Moore to be built ...

Re: Dexta Main bearing block bores
Thank you, I will give it a measure. I also have a Power Major with oversize main bearings, which I need to rebuild, fortunately the crank and bearings are in reasonable condition, and the previous owner gave me the rest of the 6cyl bearing set that he had not used on the rebuild in the 1980's.

Re: Moore Loader industrail clutch set up 1963
Yes I confirm that I now know it was originally a wet clutch set up that someone converted back to 13" dry clutch, I have seen Barrys drawings when he came over this side with the club a few years back. The starter drain pipe and starter had been removed and a standard starter fitted. The rear main ...

Dexta Main bearing block bores
Hi, I haven't been on the forum for a while, I am about to rebuild my 1958 Dexta engine, and I need the block main bearing bore specification, as it is hard to find, can anyone please help? IT is not the crankshaft journal size I am looking for. I need to know what the main bearing bore size is in t...

Re: Uncontrollable revs & white smoke
Wen I first read this topic I thought it has to be the governor of pipe leak as has been suggested, this reminded me of a similar problem, that may be of interest. Our 1955 New Major Macomb Moore Grader was purchased with an engine not going and a severely worn crank and big end, we replaced the eng...

Re: malcome moore
Thanks, I would love to see those instruction as I want to put a starter in my N model, I particulaly want to work out how they keep the oil out of the starter motor? I persume they would be using an unsupported bendix spring type one like the old Series 2 Land Rovers? I have a E27N starter, but I d...

Thank you, From the ones I have it makes yours about mid 1960, but there is a Topic on engine numbers that may be more specific. I have also found in the K series and NC model book that the 660 E is from a 170" 5 ton truck May 1962 - Feb 1965 Mine is block is January i965 660EE13235 I haven't worked...

Which inlet manafold is best to use on 590E?
I am looking to find which model has the best inlet manafold to use, indications are that manafolds through to 1981 may fit. I am looking for a Manafold which has a rear facing opening so that I can better match it to the tractor which I am converting to the 590- E engine. I have seen a picture of a...

Can you help, I have just purchased a Super Major with a Malcom Moore loader industrail conversion it too has a large thrust bearing that no one seems to be able to match, that sounds to be the same as yours? I would also like to know the position of the grease nipple as the one I have has been alte...

Re: thames steering
Thank You Steven, The side of the engine has 510E 6015 and a letter which almost matches some of the part book nunbers But it has the 660EE engine prefix, I think that letter is significant as it will indicate batch. I had another look from the water pump hole and it appears to be a wet liner versio...

Re: malcome moore
Thanks for your comment, seems like something was amis with the numbers. Might be a case to change the published information on the number change period? There was a lag time between skid unit supply to far away places like Australia, and final assembly and while that makes a difference to Australia...

Hello I have a truck question, I have a few different 590E engines, ( dead and alive ) and the latest date one 5 A 8 is obviously out of a 1965 K series truck. This engine however has an engine number prefixed with 660E. As you obviously have the K series truck how does this compare with yours? My i...

Re: malcome moore
Hello Brockwood, I have bought another Malcom Moore loader, it is based on a Super Major January 1963, the engine number seems strange as it does not match any of the published information. It is after the engine number change but has half the old and half the new numbering. C 785393 ( not 08C ) and...
