Re: stuck in gear

Awesome Livewire, you got a deal on a running tractor and have been able to keep it running. I might have some hydraulics questions for you in the future. Yes getting certain parts is hard. I looked for a long time for the exhaust valve rotators and finally found some leftovers at a New Holland deal...

Re: stuck in gear

J C thanks for posting, it looks awesome to me, its a fordson! and its doing work which is what they were meant to do, If I knew what I knew now, I would have just fixed my tractors engine problems, cleaned it up and used it which is why I really bought it. I wanted to install a Bobcat sized backhoe...

Re: stuck in gear

Hi Adrian, I am in central Oregon where they grow lots of Timothy Hay. We are just about 15 miles from the cascade mountains eastern slop. The Cascades are more of a random separated string of old volcanic peaks than a mountain chain like the Rockies or the Sierra's. They start in Northern Californi...

Re: stuck in gear

Adrain, thanks for the kind words. And yes I do want to loan it out. I have no farm Shark myself but know a friend on a private equestrian ranch that can work it hard doing a variety of chores.I have heard before that these tractors need to be worked. Thanks West oz for sharing some history on the L...

Re: stuck in gear

Are you close to the 5 or farther out either East or West? looking forward to your pics posted. Anybody watch Jay Leno's gar...

Re: stuck in gear

Hi All, thanks for your responses. I don't think I should have used the phrase "stuck in gear" as I got a wrench on the front engine nut and turned the engine over freely without the back wheels moving. that means the tractor is not in gear. Here is what I know...with the gearbox and the high-low in...

Re: stuck in gear

No Henk, this one does not have the gearbox handbrake, thanks for your question. The top cover has never been assembled as It needs painting so the rear end gears are visible but without oil inside, I have them covered but maybe something fell in there, ill check that next. its just the weirdest thi...

Re: stuck in gear

Hi J C, thanks for your question. I just tried all related controls again.....shifter goes into all gears, high low does also, emergency brake is not on, and when I push clutch to floor nothing releases, same thing stuck.

stuck in gear

hello all, its been years and lots of family stuff under the bridge since I have been here or working on my Major project. Started it at least ten years ago. My '64 Super Major was painted and powdered coated in Bengal Red and Hammered Silver for Local Parade purposes and the fact that when I bought...

Re: trans to rear oil leak

Thanks for the picture Adrian, and the sentiments, very true. I will have to get some pictures up on this site, I am going to the garage just now and the tractor happens to be in its most " together" State it has ever been in since it's complete tear down in ' 06. I'll snap some shots and work to lo...

Re: trans to rear oil leak

That was a timely post Adrian, I just came from looking at the leak tonight and was noticing most of the oil was pooling in the depression directly under the hydro pump where the drain plug is. There is a slight film but no pooling under the pinion gear. I looked at the manual and saw the large o ri...

Re: trans to rear oil leak

Thanks for the input Nick and Henk, I wonder Henk if the fact that your rear case is more pressurized when using the P T O that it pushes oil against the seal slows or stops the leak. I have also heard of using a return line like you did Nick. I guess I will break the tractor and replace the seal wh...

trans to rear oil leak

Hi all its been a few months since I was here and even more months since I have been able to do anything on my tractor. Worked two jobs this summer both almost full time. interesting read on copper head gaskets

Copper Head Gaskets By Ryan Hunter Given the choices, why would one use a copper head gasket? Let’s dig into it because there are applications (perhaps more than you think) for which copper head gaskets are the best choice. To be sure, copper has been around for a while and with good reason. Let’s w...

Oil supply to head

Hi all, Unfortunately I cannot work much my tractor project due to work right now but next chance, I want to install the head. Question: is the head gasket supposed to crush the oil supply gasket when installing.? My new head gasket is not cut out to fit around the oil supply gasket, but instead sit...

Seems a battery cutoff switch might be a good idea for the possibility of a solenoid going bad as described above.

Hi Matt, Sorry just glanced at this thread again, have not been here for many weeks. The tractor is coming along nicely thanks to many helpful people on this site. Thanks for the help! Still have to figure out power steering ram cylinder opporation. Have put it together a half dozen times ac...

Re: Negative/Positve ground ?

Looking forward to priming the engine via the oil sending unit hole next chance I get to work on her. B T W, would the priming be accomplished by gravity flow from a long tubed funnel with the engine turning over? Where can I expect to see oil first, the hole in the top of the block, out the oil fil...
