Re: Dexta Engine Block Cracks what to look for

You beat me to it Pat, I'm surprised that there are cracks below the water jacket, obviously not all are caused by freezing water?

Re: Dexta Engine Block Cracks what to look for

My block has been cracked and welded before my time , see pic, you can see the weld line above the throttle rod, so that is one place it is likely to crack. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy330/ianposkitt/20161009_150321_zpsc4mosvhl.jpg I wouldn't class myself as an expert here but I would say t...

Super Dexta Radiator Cowl

As per previous posts and questions about whether the Super Dexta radiator cowl is the same as the Dexta and petrol Dexta, I couldn't get an original from a breakers yard and an internet search led me to http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172354181134?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AI...

Re: Super Dexta restoration pictures

I have found these two pieces in a box of bits, they have blue paint so I'm sure they have come from the Dexta, the trouble is I cannot remember where!

Where do they fit? please.

Re: Fuel tank rust

Slosh is good for fuel tanks, there is another similar product but I can't remember it's name. With slosh the instructions say remove tank, put small chippings or similar in the tank, shake it around holding it at all different angles, wash it all out (very important) then some cleaning steps, then ...

Re: Injection pump trouble - another one!

Hello Beauwh In reverse order yes would top up or preferably change the Fuel pump oil, there are 3 plugs, filler on top level plug at the side and a drain plug underneath, they are in the front section not the diesel section. the 3 plugs are pointed out in the manual. I think what ever oil you use t...

Injection pump trouble - another one!

Forgive me, I have reposted this as a new topic, fearing that it wasn't noticed in my restoration pics thread. I have tried to start the Super Dexta today without success, the injection pump had been removed just to clean the exterior and paint it and the area of the block behind it. It was working...

Injection Pump Problem - Again

I have tried to start the Super Dexta today without success, the had been removed just to clean the exterior and paint it and the area of the block behind it. It was working before removal. It was refitted some time back and I believe it is correctly timed. I have bled it thoroughly twice with fuel ...

More pics, missed one out then pressed Submit instead of Preview! Why does photo bucket continuously move the pictures around, "newest first" doesn't work for me. Re: Super Dexta restoration pictures

The sheet steel was around 20g but I can't be sure, I know it was thinner than 16g which is much the same as 1.6mm and 1/16".

I have done more work, just haven't got round to posting the pictures.

Thank you for all of the replies and information. It looks like the Super Dexta cowl is different, although the evidence varies!. I have placed an enquiry with Ron Greet for a second hand one. If that doesn't work then I might take a chance on the fibreglass one, accepting that it may need al...

Re: Super Dexta restoration pictures

Hello Ben

Thanks for the prompt reply, but I think my previous cap photo has misled you, it is the radiator cowl I'm not sure about whether the Dexta and Super Dexta are the same.

On the plus side I like the link to the AC cap as well, I will order one now.

many thanks and regards

This is listed under Dexta but not Super Dexta, is the super different? :?: :?:

I would be willing to have a go at modifying it if the difference was small.

My Super Dexta tank was weeping over an area where I think the driver's knee had worn the external paint off. I used Slosh as instructed, except that I had time to let it harden for weeks, it is fine now.

Re: 5" headlamp replacement

I have yet to tackle my Super Dexta headlights but I know that the reflectors are more rusty than reflective, I had considered just lining them with bakofoil, but if new reflectors are available then I would definitely use them. Question, my head lights look through the grills, are they the same if ...

Re: PTO seal

Thanks Gerald, I have replaced the seal on a 2000 not that long after someone else did, then it didn't last long once the PTO was used. When removing the old seal it seemed to have moved out of the way rather than been damaged. I will take particular care next time, also to make sure that the replac...

Re: cleaning gunk from rear axle

I cleaned the 'Salad cream' from the gear box and back end of my grey tractor by using a suds pump from a lathe stood in a washing up bowl with some paraffin, the bowl was positioned under the drain hole, I then had a length of garden hose with a nozzle attached to the pump, this way I was able hose...

Thanks for posting these pictures  I know how much work it can be. My 1963 Super Dexta doesn't seem to have any sign of number plate or brackets. Were they all like yours? I seem to think that some had the plate on the RH side Mud guard. I did a quick google image search and while there are no...

I know what you mean Brian, I can't stand the lower case 'i' ( did this or that) it appears in job applications and all over the place. I think part of sign writing or poster writing is to stand back and look at it, close up to the screen or paper can mean looking but not seeing. Regards Ian

Thanks for these answers, I have some 1/4" thick rubber so I will make some pads and see if can fit them in. I have already used this stuff for the radiator mounting. I will try to post some pictures of all this in my rebuild thread.

It went back to the dealer, South Yorkshire Motors, in Pontefract. I think the local council bought it next, but I don't knoe how long they kept it. I'm not sure how to do a dvla check?

Re-fitting fuel tank

I have started to find a bit of time again (and more daylight) to continue reassembling my 1963 Super Dexta. I had much more trouble than expected refitting the tank, a) it was half full as I had been leak testing it and b) the circlip of the throttle spindle had slid down, its width in the wrong pl...
