Check your breakdown cover for trailers

My breakdown cover is coming up for renewal, so I decided to ask a few questions about the level of cover, as a family member recently got stuck having suffered multiple punctures. It turns out that the RAC with whom I have been a member for years will not provide breakdown cover for my trailer. The...

Crankshaft grinding

Does anyone know of a good engine reconditioner in the Forest of Dean area of Gloucetsershire?
I need to get the crankshaft reground and the valve seats recut for my grey Fergy, fortunately my Fordson N although 26 years older than the Fergi is OK.

Thanks in anticipation

Simon.

Re: Pre Ignition

Thanks TMC for the reply. I will do as you suggest and see what happens. I didn't about using the points gap to alter the timing, but it is a good idea.

Re: Fordson N colour change in 1939

The model N changed from Harvest Gold (a sort of Yellow/ tan colour) to green in late 1940 according to Alan T. Condie's book Model 'N' 1929 - 45. Stuart Gibbard's book the Ford Tractor story vol 1 on page 63 refers to the colour changing in 1940 to make them less conspicuous as they stood on the je...

Pre Ignition

My 1938 N is fitted with a Lucas SR magneto which does not have an advance & retard mechanism and I have had to replace the Champion C5 plugs with W14's. I am now finding that I am suffering pre ignition with a pronounced knock at low engine speeds. :( Is there a colder or more suitable grade of plu...

Re: Harvest Gold Paint

Thanks Chriss for a reply, I have discovered that the cover on the side of the gearbox is still in it's original paint, so I should be able to get it matched. Craftmaster was one of the paint companies I had in mind. :D

Harvest Gold Paint

I have a 1938 Fordson N which has been repainted green. I would like to return it to the original harvest gold colour. Does anybody know the correct paint colours or codes for harvest gold, as most that I have seen have been repainted a rather strong Howard rotovator orange which isn't quite right. ...
