Hi all,
Well it's sortred and was simple when someone who knew electrics looked at it. I hadn't got an earth cable from solenoid to the tractor!
Now...... Next I need to find the cause of the severe vibrations on my other Super...

Re: Super major wiring
That's the diagram I've been working to. It's red wire no.6 I'm not sure where to put it. I'm over the yard on Friday so will take photos of what I've got and where. I take it that the other smaller wires with ring connectors which are connected to solenoid, one of them would be a feed to key switch...

Re: Super major wiring
Thanks Brian for the info and photos, what's confusing is the red wire has a large ring connector and the solenoid has two little connectors as well as the 2 large. It's got a new loom, new solenoid and new starter switch. I've even tried disconnecting all the light wires from key switch leaving the...

Re: Super major wiring
Hi all thanks for the replies, yes my dash lights do come on which is what's puzzling me. The red wire is what's shown on the wiring diagram just below the solenoid and shows it going to earth, is this correct? If I push lever down and then push button on solenoid it will turn over and start. Will g...

Re: Super major wiring
Hi Anthony,
It's a ring type connector on the red wire. I will take photos next time in at the yard. It is by the way negative Earth if that makes any difference ?
Yes no power at the red leads on starter

Super major wiring
Hi I've recently bought back my grandads super major. When I collected it the chap said the it needs a new start button on starter, changed that and still won't start on lever. Also changed the look and solenoid and still no start on lever I have to use the button on solenoid. There is one red wire ...

Re: Super major starter problems
Many thanks to all that commented with advice, I had a fiddle again using a larger piece of wire and it is the solenoid that's at fault. I have ordered a new one, with push button. I've read in other posts about earthing solenoids, I'm no electrics buff, can anyone advise if this should be done and ...

Super major starter problems
Hi Started my super yesterday a few times to work on plough, went to start at end of day and click, nothing happened. Checked all connectors and battery and still 'click' at the solenoid. Tried using a wire to hot wire starter and it just sparks and no action. Am I right in thinking that its the sta...

Thanks Robert.
Looks like they are leaking where the pipe goes through, there is a small metal clip on the inside, not sure wether to try to tension it?

Super major injector pipe seals
Hi all,
Any suggestions on how best to seal the rubber injector pipe seals that are in the side of the head?
I've fitted new ones and to be honest, not much better than the old ones even with liberal amounts of a sealant paste.
Many thanks
Kev

Whilst we're on the subject of minimec pumps..... My one feels like its pumping strong on 3&4 but feels weak on 1&2, would this be the pump or injectors?

Ok Brian thanks :-/ he said he shimmed the gear on so it was tight. I have another engine lined up as I haven't been convinced with this engine.

Re: SM head
Cheers pat, Yes it vibrates when sat in the yard. Makes no difference if the clutch pedal is depressed. The chap who I bought it off did say that he had to shim the timing gear to the crank, so that might be first place to look I will still check valve clearance as it needs double checking now it's ...

Re: SM head
After having the head skimmed, I re lapped the valves back in, new seals etc, re fitted the head, reset the valve clearances( to how I think is correct) the engine ran fine, wurst no vibrations. Drive today to a ploughing match, again fine with no vibrations, the same during the ploughing. Shut off ...

Re: SM head
Thanks for all the info, I've got the head back from being skimmed and just lapping/fitting valves. Super major rear lights wiring
Im getting ready to wire in my rear lights and side lights on my super major. Now....the colour wires on the rear lamps don't match anything on the wiring diagra ? I presume the two wires from the rear lamps are one for power in and the other to the side lamps? On the main harness there is just two ...

Re: SM lift arms twitching
Hi Brian
Drove her home yesterday from where it's stored, tried moving the lever down a little only really stopped twitching when it was near the ground. When fully raised you can see the plough twitching and hear the pump surging slightly when the arms twitch.
