Henk,
BSF stands for British Standard Fine, BSW is British Standard Whitworth, which is a coarser thread. TPI stands for Threads Per Inch.

Re: Threath on a Lucas dynamo
British imperial threads have an angle of 55 degrees and not 60 degrees as used on American and metric threads.

Ford 4000 front axle pivot pin
Can anyone give me some guidance as to how to remove a seized pivot pin on a 4000?
A sketch of a pivot pin for a later tractor shows the pin threaded at one end and with a hexagon machined on the other. Can anyone confirm that earlier pins were also threaded or were they a push fit?

Re: Engine Breathing pipe leaking diesel????
Further to my previous post I have just had a look at the drawing for the injection pump, the leakage that you are experiencing could be due to the lift pump diaphragm being punctured. In hind sight this is a more likely cause of a continous fuel flow from the pig tail pipe, so you need to strip the...

Re: Engine Breathing pipe leaking diesel????
As the tractor has been standing idle for several months, I would give it a good run to see if that will cure it. If it is still leaking then it probably requires to be overhauled, in which case you need to remove the injection pump and take it to a firm who specialise in overhauling Diesel injectio...

Re: Engine Breathing pipe leaking diesel????
The odd drip from this pipe is acceptable.
If as you suggest it is running in a constant stream, your injection pump is in need of overhaul.

Re: Metal filter assembly to the hydraulic pump
Mervyn, I think that you will find that the hole is threaded so that the filter can be bolted to the side of the axle casing, with a bolt and sealing washer passing through from the outside. Your working conditions remind me of what we used to experience down in the engine room sailing through the R...

Re: Metal filter assembly to the hydraulic pump
Mervyn, It isn't the cost of the filter that matters so much as the cost of sending it to you. I suggest that you repair the hole with a suitable nut and bolt and a couple of washers, which will be far cheaper than me sending you a replacement filter which you are welcome to if you really need it. Re: Battery Isolator
I have found that the isolators with the green knob tend to break! I bought a couple with a black knob off the internet which appear to be a better buy.
I have one fitted on my Dexta, to isolate the battery you only have to slacken the screw which can be done without lifting the bonnet!

It is a sad fact of life that you can spend more money and many man hours refurbishing a tractor for your own satisfaction, than it is worth. That is why I have sold two of my collection without refurbishing them.

Re: Dexta price ranges?
The Ford and Fordson Association Price Guide suggests a range from £900 to £7,200, so probably somewhere in the region of £3,000 + for a well restored example.

Re: Dexta -60 project
I suspect that the reason that the glow plugs are failing is due to the fact that the tips are in the spray/flame path of the injectors! In this instance the plugs are nearly at right angles to the injector, whereas in engines which are designed to be fitted with glow plugs the angle between the plu...

Re: Dexta -60 project
There is no reason why fitting glow plugs to a Dexta engine wouldn't work, if I remember correctly this has been carried out by one of our Norwegian members. The combustion caps on my 1959 Dexta are fitted with screwed plugs. The biggest problem is probably finding a sutable glow plug which will fit...

Forge Services, www.tractorspares.com/ advertise parts for Lucas dynamos. Or you can search the Internet or on Ebay for spare parts. I can buy Morris oils from the local Dealer cheaper than from Morris direct. So perhaps you should shop around at your local Dealers', to see what they are charging.

I had excellent service from Grace Poppewell tel. 01673 844990 after 6pm. I found her to be very helpful and extremely efficient.
I have just checked the Blue Force site and Grace is listed as their Registration Officer.

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
Paul,
From what you have said the liners are not too badly worn and unless you intend to work the tractor hard I would use your existing liners with new piston rings. You need to remove the ridge from the top of the liner to avoid the possibility of the top ring breaking.

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
I think that you will find that the copper is too soft for this job, you would be better off with a piece of steel to drive the pin out slightly smaller in dia than the pin. When I did it, I tightened up the nut on the right of your picture and hammered the left hand end. The pin was very tight to t...

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
I doubt that you will have sufficient heat from a Plumbers lamp. I made up a puller using 3/4" studbar and a piece of pipe etc. and I found that if I gave the puller a good clout with a heavy hammer as I tightened the nut the pin could be drawn out. It was a slow process but effective. Sometimes the...
