Re: Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

DWD, Since you are only getting a drip it cant be under any pressure where the hole is or it hasnt rubbed all the way through which is a good thing. The cheapest and easiest option is to use liquid metal as the repair can be carried out with the pump in place. You would be better draining down the b...

Re: Hydraulic piston stuck

Is the piston seized in the bore with sitting for a long time without movement or is it that you want to just remove the piston to replace the lip seal?? If it is the latter I used compressed air to remove it as the manual says. You apply air pressure through the safety valve hole and hold your thum...

Great photos Bob.
My father went to New Byth rally every year when he was alive with his trusty old transit and vintage stationery engines in the back and the caravan in tow.

Re: Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

DWD, Im not trying to teach you how to suck eggs here but how much oil did you add to the rear axle? The axle takes around 32 pints of oil and in new money that equates to 18 litres. The correct level is found by removing the level plug with the square head situated just in front of the P.T.O. selec...

Re: How to replace water pump seal?

Sorry to hear of your stroke and glad to hear your well on the road to recovery.
I would agree with Ben and the quickest and easiest fix is to just replace the complete pump assembly instead of just replacing the seal. They are easy available and not expensive.

Regards
Charlie.

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration

Thanks Mervyn. Ive been absent from the site as I was away on holiday and had no internet access. Ive not had a chance to get out for any more runs on her yet but I am hoping to get to a vintage rally in August on my next time home. :) :)

Re: Ignition Switch Heating Up

Thanks for the replies guys. It is a brand new switch and hasnt been exposed to any rain or water. I will have another look and recheck all the crimped connections and check everything with a meter again. Will report back on my findings.

It sure is Ben. I had a couple of old car floor mats lying about that I cut into the shape of the footplates and set them on to hopefully save wearing out the paint.

Re: Ignition Switch Heating Up

Mervyn, Had another look at it today. Rechecked all the terminals and all are tight. No sign of burning either. I reconnected the battery again and checked to see if the switch was heating up when just sitting with everything off. It seems that it is heating up only when the ignition switch is on an...

Ignition Switch Heating Up

I noticed today when I had my tractor running the ignition switch seemed to be heating up and was warm to touch as well as the surrounding area of the dash at the ignition switch area. It is a combined light/ignition switch and the lights were not switched on at the time. I wouldnt have thought this...

New oil pressure switch fitted so the oil warning light is working again and all the wiring now complete with only the rear lights and number plate lamp to wire. Took the old girl out for a run today and gave her a wash and polish up. https://s19.postimg.cc/tzpazgdf3/DSC02054.jpg https://s19.postimg...

Update on the charging fault. Note to oneself as to leave my tractor and workshop well alone on my last day at home as my mind is usually on other things. Re: Charging Fault

Ian, Thanks for the reply. I am currently away again so the tractor has come to a standstill for another 4 weeks. I am going to get myself an ammeter and carry out the amps check as per the workshop manual and that way I cant go wrong in checking the amps as the Fluke meter can be confusing and I am...

Re: Charging Fault

Bob, Thanks for the reply. It definitely says 24v in the workshop manual I have which threw me with it being a 12v system. My electrical skills just aren't that great. Whenever we had electrical faults on cars etc it was always the auto spark which did the fault finding/repairs so I never got involv...

Mike,
You could also try L.McBride Ltd, Canal Rd, Timperley, Cheshire, Phone # 01619621322/ Mob # 07788628184. They also break Dextas etc.

Re: Wanted Dexta RH Lift Arm

Mike,
Might be worth giving Gruffydd Hughes , Hughes Tractor Spares an email to see if he has anything. His email is fordson2012@gmail.com. He breaks a lot of Dextas and sells a lot of parts on ebay. Ive dealt with him a few times and he has always been reasonable.

Re: Advice needed - Dodgy Linkage

Mike, I would have thought making a couple of cuts along the bush would have made it easy to remove. It must be well seized in there. Heres hoping that the metal bashers are able to remove it for you without causing any damage. Thats around the same price as what I paid for my arm bushes. When you a...

Re: Advice needed - Dodgy Linkage

Mike if you dont have access to any form of heating/welding buy some new hacksaw blades and enter a blade through the bush and refit it to the hacksaw. Make at least 2 cuts along the bush. I know it will take a bit of effort but if make a few cuts through the bush it should come out with a gentle bi...

Mike, top rocker bush from Mayhill Tractors, product code 650 for £5.95. When I fitted my new rocker bush I coated the outer of the bush with copper grease to help it slide into place as it is a very tight fit. The new rocker bracket that I purchased from Agriline I had to grind the bottom face to s...

Re: Advice needed - Dodgy Linkage

Mike I also forgot to say I had the same problem with my rocker bush in that someone had mashed a pin which was seized in mine. I ended up having to cut the pin flush with the rocker bracket and bought a new pin which I used as a drift to remove the remainder of the pin and then the bush. I soaked e...
