Ah well. I unscrewed the bung as directed and indeed some water came out. But when I went to screw in the new probe, the thread is the right size but the actual probe part just drops through into the header! Its as if there should be a shoulder inside there for the probe to fit against with the thre...

Cheers, just had a look at mine and I have a plug with a square hole in it round about there. Just unscrew that and screw in the probe?

Your engine number 08C is as you say 1963, but the number seems a little high? Are you sure its 08C967812 and not 08C867812?

You will have to be careful there David because I was trying to get hold of an element exactly like the one in the picture with the lip around the middle, but Agriline only do one with the lip at one end.
