Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
Good evening, question: do the new performance shaft with seal 44 fit into the older models pto housing from before June 1963? And the other way round, older shaft with seal 54 into np housing? Thanks and regards, Huub Hello Huub, the pto drop box does have a different size on a new performance tra...

The seal depends if you have a new performance tractor or not. The double lip is for the new performance tractor. All others have 2 seals back to back

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
Hi, I think it's worth looking at the bearings in the pto box. It's not a big job, you will need to drain the oil from the rear end and gearbox. Before you start with this, check the oil level in the gearbox. take out the pto shaft from the back. dismantle the pto lever and you should be able to tak...

Re: Fordson and Dexta clutch pilot bearing causing shaft damage
I got 62052RSSKF bearing as pilot. it says it is normal clearance. Should I worry?
when I need bearings I always try to order skf or any other good quality brand.

Re: Fordson major grinding noise
Hi welcome on the board.
If you drain the oil and take of the side cover, it might tell you a lot.
Transmission handbrake could be causing rhe problem.
Is it possible to engage disengage the pto without any issues?

Will post more pictures of the engine soon. As for the starter, It will be reused. I think I needs these: https://www.autoelectricalspares.co.uk/m45-m50-starter-motor-bushing-kit-replaces-lucas-tcb118-ssp0020-61194019-54243853-1873-p.asp In the meantime I will change the brushes too. Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question
I fitted a new dutch Kawe double clutch to be able to use the 6 cylinder rpm and power. Some pain in the wallet, but there is only one way and that's the right way. However, it was a little nightmare to fit the engine to correspond with the splines. I have the same clutch in my County, so far I'm h...

Re: question about O-ring power steeering cylinder
I'm busy with the power steering and I think I solved the mystery on O ring 28. According to the I&T manual there was an early production power steering control valve. this specific o-ring is not on the diagram. It only shows up on the later production power steering cylinder. Obvious there is also ...

Re: 1963 FSM rear wheels scalloped or not
Original was the scalloped wheel centre. But the round one will fit and work good. Only change the track width takes more time. Tire size back then was 11-36, which in modern tires is 12.2x36. Emiel, is it 12.4x36 you are thinking of? I have it on one of my super majors. 16.9x30 also looks good on ...

Re: bolt size brackets headlamp
Just replaced mine this week, 5/16 UNC was fine, ran a tap down to clean up the rust in the threads first yeah I ordered some unc taps to clean it up. One bolt was sheared off, so I used the welder to weld a nut on. It did get out with ease. I have the headlamps in the grills, and I found out the 1...

Re: First Start After Rebuild
Looking good.
Next time I do an engine rebuild, I need a puller like that to get the sleeves out.
The O-ring in one of the pictures, is it the one that needs to go between the block and head gasket?

Re: Stripped Clutch Disk Splines
I split my 64 Super Dexta knowing I had some sort of single stage clutch problem. I was mowing some short grass and the machine was not in a bind. It just stopped moving forward. Once I got it apart I found that all of the spline teeth in the clutch disk were stripped and the spline hole is now bas...

Latest update - got it road registered! V5 came earlier in the week and just got the plates yesterday. So hopefully I am all set to participate in road runs. Seems a bit weird being the first registered keeper of a tractor that is older than I am! Great news Ian, how is your tractor going? Does it ...

Re: 590E engine head problems
As for the clutch; I took the original live drive clutch out of my County six cilinder and replaced it with the improved clutch. So far it is doing great. It's just not a working tractor to be honest. The tractor was delivered with the live drive clutch as a Super 4 with 4 cilinder engine. Somewhere...

Re: 590E engine head problems
Hope the engine can stay on the tractor; plan to leave the crankshaft in place if the journals are o.k. Of course the connecting rod bearings will be replaced. Is it necessary to replace the rod cap bolts in these engines? I know this is always advice for big turbo diesel Allis Chalmers diesels, li...

Re: 590E engine head problems
Today I inspected the head. Till now, no cracks found. I noticed that the valve stems of the exhaust valves are pretty worn (9,43 mm instead of 9,49 / 9,50). The carbon has an abrasive effect. The intake valve stems are very little worn (9,47-9,50 in diameter). I decided to replace all valves and v...

Re: 590E engine head problems
First find yourself a gasket set for the engine. It will have all the seals you need. Like these: http://www.jmgaskets-seals.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=DGD600D&cat=324 It does have the same valve stem seals as the Fordson engine. Look if the valves are usable (not bent) and see how much play there is...
