Re: Going ploughing

I'm learning a lot here, Richard. Thanks so much.
Seems to me that light soils throw up as many challenges as clay.

Re: Ford Thames

Great machines both. Wish I lived just down the road so I could have a good look and listen!
Nice to see the buck is original (okay, wood replaced). Do you know the lorry driver's hitch? Would be impressive if you used ropes to secure the Dexta. A wander back in time!

Re: Going ploughing

Thanks for the info, Rick. Would this kind of soil lend itself to root crops the other side of this process?
Re the engines, does steam provide greater torque over diesel?

Bloody hell, Rick! They are going to a lot of trouble to bury the topsoil. Don't get it.
Great engines, though.

I'm keen to hear more of Pavel's molasses treatment, too.

Re: 57 major

Interested by your comment, Pavel. The inside of the block as shown is how it was when I revealed it for the first time after forty-nine years. Rusted but no loose flakes. It didn't occur to me to remove the rust down to bare metal. Cast develops a jacket of rust that, though to some extent permeabl...

Sorry for the late reply. There is a water pump rebuild kit available that includes new shaft and bearings. See link.

Re: mid mounted mower - almost there

Great restoration and fitting of the mower. No experience of tractor mowers so finding this thread most interesting and informative.
From a layman's point of view, I can see how taller, haymaking grass would flow better over the cutter bar.
Tractor being put to good use!

Re: E1A Crankshaft Issue

Hello James Could you run us though the procedure you adopted to rebuild the engine? I ask, as the block should ideally have been stripped and the oil galleries cleaned, as should the oil galleries in the crank. My guess is that you did do this, and that you have arrived at a mismatch between your c...

Re: Going ploughing

Richard, 'faultless' as a description may have been slightly hyperbolic (language Timothy!), but looking at your new images, I'm still looking for the faults!
Thanks again for posting the images. They are inspiring. I particularly like the frost.

Re: 57 major

Like the belt and braces (suspenders ?) approach, Dave. I used the same approach when refitting the PTO selector housing below the gearbox. Mark, sorry to have to say it, but you are going to have to go back in. Could you provide some clear images of the cleaned block in the area of the seal recesse...

Re: Brevetto lift cover

So that's how it works. Effective, though strictly speaking not a diff lock.
As when using the diff lock, you'd have to be sure to stop before engaging to avoid chipping the gear teeth.

Dear Henk
That's an admirably modest response.
You and Mathias have saved a great resource that was so close to being lost, and you are continuing the good work of Oscar and Brian.
Best regards and thanks

Re: fordson major

If the arms won't go down, sounds like the unloading valve is stuck. You need to remove the hydraulic lid, extract the unloading valve plug with a puller and then carefully remove the unloading valve and inspect valve and bore. The valve will either have an O ring or a steel ring. Just removing and ...
