That looks very interesting... there is something very similar near here - the same type (if not identical) loader system but no cab. I've been meaning to try to get some photographs but it's on private Shark and is only really visible from a main road. I've not been able to see well enough but I pr...

Maybe I should take a similar 'o' ring and leave it to soak in a glass of Aerol?

And what about lamp oil? Isn't that similar enough to kerosene? What's the difference exactly?

Well it kind of is...
My solution for the freezing problem has been a dash of the alcohol sold for airbrakes on older trucks (those without the magic drier that the new ones seem to have). My concern was exactly the thought of what that might do to the various "O" rings and seals. Since giving the tractor this shot of th...

Also, is it freezing where you are now? I've had mine refuse to work in sub-zero temperatures - I think the problem was caused by condensation freezing in the valves. If this is the case, I have a solution, but it's one that needs to be approved by Brian first to make sure it's not harmful. Doesn't ...

Original ASP
This photo was taken for Brian, to prove that the ASP was back in action. http://www.attwood.fi/images/tractor/snowwork.jpg Shortly after taking this photo I drove the five miles to James the Welsh Chap's place. The ASP will spend the winter there for James to use for snow clearing. Next spring, all...

Does it even get cold, over your side of the country? :-D
I always use the excess fuel button, as standard procedure (let's forget about what I used to do with the decompression lever - I won't do that again..). So far our tractor has started well whatever the temperature, although I have to say I didn't try it during that terrible winter many years ago wh...

Indeed - we had one great year for ornamental gourds but recent years have had bad early frosts :( That's a fantastic looking harvest Brian. Here's an interesting - if slightly creepy - idea that folks might like to try next year: Farmer grows pumpkins with human faces No that's not a spelling mista...

Jesus springs
Hi all, this is for Mark, in response to the following: Hi JP, I've been reading about your ASP, and I saw you use the phrase, "Jesus spring" and it gave me a good laugh, I've never heard that one before. Could you explain that one for us folks on this side of the pond. Thanks Mark "Jesus spring" is...

Solved!
Problem solved - the metering rack was sticking. After much plucking-up of courage I removed the regulator from the front of the fuel pump as well as the stop control. This didn't release any Jesus springs, but did give me access to both ends of the rack. At first it looked like it was really stuck,...

Thanks Brian! You've given me hope that things may be still on schedule. I thought those four screws looked tempting - it's good to know I can proceed. I'll also have a read of the workshop manual tonight. The flesh-eating monkeys can have it as a bedtime story instead of their usual Enid Blyton. Th...

Engine problem - fuel injection pump?
Hello all Today I fitted a new lift pump to my ASP (A rare Major variant made up over the decades from parts of different tractors). That job was fairly straightforward - the problems became apparent after starting the tractor up again. Last time the tractor ran - a months or so ago, it was running ...

Decompression lever
Hi folks
I seem to remember reading somewhere that using the decompression lever to assist with starting the Major is bad for the engine. Could someone explain why this is please?
Many thanks,
J-P (who is off to hunt for the battery charger so he won't have to resort to this trick anyway)

I called in at a specialist bearing shop today, with the old bearings in my hand, and asked about the price of replacements... each individual bearing would have been over 70e and of course that doesn't include the felt seal. So indeed Agriline will be getting my order! The king pin bushes / bearing...

Why oh why did you not mention it when we were in Charlies yard. You were too busy making eyes at those two ex army diggers. Any news on the fork lift front? There are a couple of shafts here that could find their way into the load. The honest answer is that then it was such a long time sinc...
