OK. Thanks for the further confirmation. I'll let you know when I get the leak fixed.

I'll probably buy the repair kit then. I was just wondering if some parts could be worn too much in which case the gasket kit wouldn't help. Thanks for the tip. I'm not entirely sure what you meant by twisting the diaphragm 90 degrees but it'll probably become clear when I have the parts in front of...

Fuel lift pump leak
My -55 Major fuel lift pump is leaking diesel somewhere in the priming lever area. I think it comes from where the lever axle goes through the body of the pump. So far I haven't noticed any fuel in the engine oil. My question is would a fuel pump repair kit work in this case or do I need to get a ne...

I remember reading somewhere that you can make some sort of collar or band that fits around a cracked pump squeezing it tight. Doesn't sound too far fetched to me. At least it would stop it cracking further while you're looking for a new one. As for the cause of cracking, in colder climates pumps ca...

I'm no expert but a wheel wobble sounds more like a problem with worn linkage joints or bearings. Also check if the wheel rim isn't bent. Incorrect toe in might have masked the problem before. Excessive toe in tends to drag the wheels into one direction (inwards) all the time (or so I have understoo...

The hinge was rusted on my Major too but it was not damaged, just stuck. The bonnet looked also like seagul wings as you described. I took the old pin out and replaced it with a new one. It required quite a bit of brute force to drive it out. I started by hitting the end of the hinge pin by another ...

So what does the temperature gauge sensor do? Does it influence the thermostat, or does that function independently? If the temperature gauge sensor simply reports the temp to the dashboard, then it actually can be removed (during the winter) without effecting the tractor's function. So, can I simp...

I have wondered the same question myself. Last fall I repaired the plough lamp in my dads MF-135. The reflector was so bad that I decided to try the paint. It was a similar product than yours. It is named chrome paint but I believe it is made from aluminium. Only time will tell if it will go dim aga...

The square bolt that you asked about is indeed the temperature gauge sensor. The thermostat (if it hasn't been removed) is above the water pump under the "cup" where the upper radiator water hose is attached. The thermostat is basically a valve that restricts the flow of water to the radiator until ...

The Dexta repair manual ( http://www.fordson-dexta.de/downloads/section3.pdf ) says that the thermostat opening temperature is between 156 and 165 F and the fully open temperature is 185 F. The Major owner's manual quotes exactly these same numbers and it also says that the correct engine temperatur...

It was -32 degrees Celsius here the other day. Now it is much warmer, about -18 C. I haven't been able to take pictures of my Major because I don't want to start her. She lives in a cold shed right now unfortunately. I did try to start her a little while ago when it was only about -16 or -17 C. It t...

so I don't need to remove the entire shaft? There are two seals, one at both ends of the shaft. I think it would be better to chance both seals to ensure that oil doesn't find its way into the brakes. I believe that the shaft was designed to be that long just to improve the oil sealing capability. ...

I'd say you need to switch off the flash on the camera. That funny white stuff refects the light back from the flash confusing the camera making it think its over exposed so it compensates by making it dark. An annoyance of digital cameras. Most come with an 'EV' function to manually over/under exp...

I took a picture of my Major today but it turned out to be too dark. Maybe the camera settings were wrong? I'm putting it here anyway although there's not much to look at. As you can see she is finally road legal now that the registration plate is finally installed. I was lucky enough to get the sam...

Here is a picture of the finished license plate bracket (backside). It is already installed but I can't get a picture of it now. But I can't work out how to get the rest of the outer bearing from the axle housing. What voodoo magic can I use to persuade it to come out ? I have never tried it myself but supposedly if you weld a long seam along the inside surface of the old bearing, it would make the bearing shrink a little wh...
