Noise in 4th and 6th gear Help!
This is making me want to pull my hair out. I have had this noise for about a year. It sounds alot like a hydraulic valve chatter more than a grinding. When I got the tractor it had transmission damage and I have replaced bearings, drive shaft, secondary shaft, main shaft and the 1st & 3rd gear. The...

Re: Transmission noise in 4th and 6th gear
If you watch how the gears engage, you will see that the 4th and 6th sliding coupling engages the counter shaft adjacent to the pto input shaft.
The other gears engage in the upper section. There is no actual 4th-6th gear. There is more load on the pto input when in 4th and 6th.

Re: Transmission noise in 4th and 6th gear
Here are some photos of my current project. I have mostly decided to just replace the damaged PTO input shaft. There seems to be no other evidence od damage. I can see in the rear section through the shifter hole that everything looks fine. Hopefully, the piece and the damaged splines were the probl...

Re: Transmission noise in 4th and 6th gear
When I removed the PTO input shaft I sat it in the floor, gear down. When I picked it up later the piece was under it. I assume it came from there. The really confusing part is; why is there only a problem in 4th and 6th? I don't understand how things are meshed when the lever is in that position. I...

Transmission noise in 4th and 6th gear
Hello all, I have a terrible noise when in either 4th or 6th gear. It most likely happens around 1200 to 1400 rpms under small load like going up a moderate hill with no implement or anything. It is more like a vibration than a grinding. I have the tractor split and the bell housing section apart. W...

Re: Oil warning light wiring
The ones I got from Agriline are the "oringinal type". They had only one wire.
I don't know that you would have to insulate from the dash. You are looking for a solid connection.

Re: Oil warning light wiring
When I installed new oil pressure and generator lights, I soldered a length of 16 gauge stranded wire to the light housing.
Then you can wire as needed.

John,
The nose is actually the original. It was repaired and reshaped by a paint and body shop. The fenders are the only new metal pieces.
There are several new bits in other places.

Aside from some adjustments and a couple of squeaks, I am calling my Dexta finished. This forum is and will continue to be my favorite source for Fordson information. See before and after pics below. Currently there is no line ran to the manifold as I have not been able to get a primer type fuel tap. I have ran a fuel line with a filter directly from the tank to the injector pump only. I think I made that sort of confusing in my other post. Also, I have the brass cutoff mentiontioned installed a...

I am hoping it will get better with a little work. It's only been cold started three times since the head was rebuilt. I have replaced the diaphragm and there is no fuel primer pump connected. Right now I have made up a fuel line with an inline filter only, because I can't seem to get a primer pump ...

Normal smoke?
Got my Dexta running again. :) I have a couple of questions as I am new to diesels. When cold started it runs rough like it is surging/hunting for probably three minutes and smokes white rich smoke (burns your eyes if inside shop). When it warms up it runs good and does not smoke. Does this sound li...

Gearbox and rear oil
I know this subject comes up often, but..... After putting alot of work in I don't want to make a mistake. I have found a good deal on 5 gallon pails of "Super Trac TO-4 SAE 30". This is from a US distributor called Smitty's Supply. http://www.smittysinc.net/ The oil is labled as a hydraulic oil for...

Straightened radius arms
I did it! I got both radius arms in much better shape. I was still unsure of how much pressure the arms could take without kinking, but am definitely glad I kept pushing now. They are much easier to look at. Figured out how to put photos in my post, too. :) The right arm was the worst so I only incl...

Radius arms
Well, I am back to my bent radius arms. A while back I asked if anyone had ever straightened theirs, but didn't have any pictures on a host site. I have setup an album on Photobucket. Should I straighten those arms or leave them as is and call it character? :? http://s1029.photobucket.com/albums/y35...

Thanks Rob I have a service manual and parts list. I did get the plate off. The main culprit was the bearing being stuck in the boss/casting. Once I got past that, things were easier. However, it's going to hurt my budget. I need to replace the first/third gear, drive shaft, PTO input shaft and main...
