Re: Lifting and Weights

I read on the vintage tractor engineer site under Dexta data that the rear lift capacity is 1850 lbs which equates to 840 kilos? Is this incorrect??

Lifting and Weights

I have a sprayer that goes on the 3 point linkage. Empty the weight is approx. 250kgs. It takes 350 litres of water so total weight should be approx. 600 kilos. I need to assemble a front weight carrier. Has anybody lifted similar a similar weight and if so how much weight have they put on the front...

Re: Resolving play in a Dexta's steering.

I had to attend to my box about 3 years ago. For a start drop the connecting rods off the drop arms so nothings connected. Then turn the wheel each way very gently and look for any movement in the drop arms or move the drop arms gently and see if theres an immediate movement in the wheel. Theres bou...

Re: Auxillary valve leak

Thanks Brian for your advice. Would it be best to remove the unit or to do it in situ? Do you know if the plugs are available still and who does them? Many Thanks for your help.

Auxillary valve leak

Ive just started my dexta which has not been run for 2 years. Whilst running ive noticed oil leaking from the auxillary control valve. Its coming from the hole immediatly behind the control valve. Its a hole with what looks like a roll pin in it. Ive looked it up in the parts manual, its on fig 10 o...

Alternator wiring

Ive read several threads as to wiring for an alternator some of which appear to have been succesful. Could someone give me a diagram for a wiring loom fitted with an alternator and doing away completely with the voltage regulator i.e. not just disconnecting the wires. I do not have any lighting at p...

Bensdexta... Ive got loads of impact sockets on 1/2 inch drive and ive never snapped one yet. That electric impact gun will 99% undo that bolt, i highly recommend them. As a guide it will undo the wheelnuts on our 17 ton Renault truck, 34mm from memory. However you might be surprised though some are...

I know its all more expense but have a look in the Argos book or Halfords etc for a 12v impact gun, used to be approx £25. They do work very well and i have used one for loads of jobs. They come with an adaptor so you can use croc clips direct off the battery. The sockets are of no good (Usually met...

My engine never had one on when i rebuilt it. I put Loctite on the thread and wound it up with an impact gun. I then put it in gear and blocked the back wheels and turned it a bit more with an extended bar. I wouldnt mind thinking that something like a Land Rover might use a washer and be readily av...

Paint Type

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for a decent paint. In the past ive used synthetic enamel made by a company called Corrofast. Done my 35 7 years ago and still looks good. Been to local factor and they no longer stock this make. I know agriline does a paint which i presume is a syn...

If you have trouble finding the correct part try this.. Have a look at the gear linkage on a motorbike, they use the rose jointed type ends. I believe ive got a few in my workshop which you might be able to adapt. I will have a look tommorow and a think! Failing that the Land Rover type might be an i...

I was really thinking about heavy degreasing, engine etc, brush or spray on and hose off. I use panel wipe before painting, cant tell you the make as it carries the local factors name only, the smell always reminds me of a dry cleaners shop.

Best Degreaser??

Over the years i have always used parafin for degreasing and on some jobs Gunk, followed by a rinse of water. Both do the job ok but i would like to know what others use and how effective it is as there are now many other brands of degreaser available.

Brake Pedal Removal.

Got to remove my pedals to replace the oil seal. On looking at the pedals all i can see is about 1/4 inch of pin sticking out which goes through the pedal and the shaft. Theres nothing on the other end. Is this a pin that justs drifts out or should it have had a nut on the end thats poss sheared off?

I didnt make myself clear. The bolts at the front are the ones that hold the bottom of the nose cone to the axle carrier and not the carriage bolts that hold the rad. They actually bolt through the sides of the cone and into the ends of the axle carrier. Sorry for the confusion.

Can someone please tell me what the thread sizes are for; 1) The bolt that holds the bottom of the rad cowling to the axle carrier,One bolt each side.... 2) The stud thread that holds the rear axle tubes to the differential housing, lots of them!

Brian, looked at your Dexta photo. Your number plate is similar in area to mine, 556 XUX, you might recall from my post last week its just been registered. Mine was done through DVLA Maidstone, Kent. I think the last letters, UX and in your case UV would have originally been Shrewsbury numbers. I th...

Lift Arms Removal

When removing lift arms do they have to be marked in line with the splines before removing or is there a master spline? Also ive undone the retaing bolt and washer and the arms dont want to slide off. Am i missing something or do they need a puller?
