Re: Fordson Repair Manuals
Brian - frustrating indeed - you should invoice them for acting as their sole QA officer ! Down her in South Africa we come across copies of many of our old & trusted brand names. All from China. Usually the messed up English was a dead give-away that you are about to exchange good money for scrap, ...

Re: Fordson Repair Manuals
Thanks Pavel - yes both those links work. (wish one link was to the repair manual  ) I am looking for info on the front wheel assembly - kingpin, seals & bearings. My 1954 seems to be quite worn. Strange that the grease nipple doesnt have a corresponding hole on the inside. I need to know what ...

Re: Fordson Repair Manuals
Appreciate your patience -
ebookbrowse returned no results on FM supplement.
Further searching got me to Agrimanuals who wanted UK 19.99 for the Repair Manual.
It is a real pity that the Forums PDF Manuals links had to be discontinued, is there no other way to access the old manuals ?

Re: Flushing engine internally
Thanks for the comments and alternatives suggested. Definitely only the oil side will be cleaned. Dave, Inet also mentions ATF as a flushing agent. Adding water thru carb intake on petrol engines was a popular way to "decoke" engines in my young days. Don't know if it really worked that well. I sinc...

Flushing engine internally
I want to clean old oil sludge around valves and inside tappet cover.
Also planned to spray some around crankshaft and conrods as sump is removed.
Fordson owners manual states on p35 that paraffin should not be used.
Why would this be ?

Tim ;
Agree - this is about my thinking as well.
The pipe does have a spring round it - purpose of which is then not clear.

Re: Fordson Major Oil Pump
Hi Tim, I am restoring the tractor, and the thick oil sludge coming out the drain plug worried me. That is why I decided to drop the sump. Yes it is a bowl shaped strainer inside a bowl shaped pressed steel holder. The holder has a round hole at the top. Perhaps I should post photos of the gasket op...

Forson Major Oil Pump
I removed the sump - and have a few questions
Does it make sense to overhaul the oil pump - new one seems quite pricey ?
Strainer basket was lying on sump bottom - what keeps strainer on the vertical pipe ?
Front and rear crankshaft seals in sump look the same ? - gasket kit confuse me

Cleaning diesel tank
Guys, please allow me this very basic / stupid question.
I removed the 1954 FNM's diesel tank; trying to get the solidified gunk out of it.
Any ideas/tips how to go about it ?

Gearbox safety switch modification
FNM tractor 1954 is often started while standing next to it - that is in front of a rear wheel.
Has anyone fitted a safety switch to ensure gearlever is in neutral before activating solenoid or can it not be done ?

Thanks Henk - my query is now resolved.
I am very tempted to replace the generator (dynamo) with an alternator; apart from higher charging output at low revs, one can obviously also do away with the old regulator and all the wiring.
