Fuel union size?

Me again...

Does anyone know the thread size of the fuel union on the cold start jet? Having refurbished the jet it now let's fuel by and I'd like to fit a tap without replacing the jet, but I'm rubbish at working out thread sizes.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Throttle parts needed

Hi Ben, Yes I'm just starting to understand the nuances of each type of air cleaner and throttle arrangement having scoured the internet for photos. What a nightmare! So I need a standard dexta air cleaner and the throttle linkages. Do I need to replace the bulkhead as well? I had hoped this would b...

Ok here it is, the best I could manage without removing the bonnet. Re: Throttle parts needed

Hello again Gerald,

Mostly 1964. The engine is, I believe, 1958. I must remember to get a photo to be clear.

Re: Throttle parts needed

Hi Gerald,

I have a pneumaticaly governed Dexta. Not sure about the bulkhead, didn't realise they differed. I'll try to get a photo. The parts diagram looked like these could come apart and be fed into the bulkhead, do they not come apart?

Thanks, Sam

Throttle parts needed

Hi all,

Can anyone help me find the following parts 9-17 inclusive. Mine is all very homemade, with the throttle operation reversed and no friction assembly. Thanks, Sam

Re: I don't understand oil wieghts...

Yes thanks Brian, I have found that the first number denotes cold viscosity and the second number denotes viscosity at 100 degrees. Therefore 15w-40 would be 'lighter' at start up and 'heavier' at running temp compared to 20w-30. It seems that 20w-50 is a little specialist, in that it seems to be co...

Re: Oil Pressure Switch

Well to close the loop, I've now got the pressure switch in and working. The warning light goes out at about 1600 revs so I'm going to try an oil change for 20w-50 and see if that makes a lot of difference...

Re: I don't understand oil wieghts...

Thanks Shawnee, I'm starting to understand. The handbook states 20 H.D. as equivalent to 20w/30. I still don't know which end of the spectrum is heavier (thicker?), and which is lighter. And the benefits or hazards involved in choosing heavier/lighter oils that specified...

I don't understand oil wieghts...

Hi All, It's about time I renewed the oil and serviced the engine on my Dexta, having only kept fluids topped up since owning it a few years. My old Operators Handbook says 20w/30 for the engine, gearbox, and back axle. However, there are lots of posts on here advising 20w/50. I don't understand the...

Thanks both, very useful. I'll test the circuit after work today and see if I can get the switch out to measure it.

Oil Pressure Switch

Hi All, I recently thought I'd treat the Dexta to a proper pair of warning lights. I've got them all wired in and the charge light works fine, but the oil pressure light is doing nothing (doesn't come on ever). I've connected up to the existing oil pressure switch which I thought looked a bit odd an...

Has anyone bought a temp gauge recently?

Good morning :-) I've heard all the stories about poor fitting temperature gauges so I wondered if anyone has bought one recently and would be able to point me to a retailer who supplies the correct size please? I have an original top dash plate so am wanting everything to fit nicely with minimal fu...

Re: Cold Start Fuel Jet

Absolutely not a problem. Like I said, the real puzzle was that helical plug until it finally came free and all became clear. I believe what I've shown is an original fitment, but I might be wrong. Others on here might be able to confirm. If it is original then it is likely quite an early version (b...

Cold Start Fuel Jet

Hi All, I just thought I would share this for anyone who might want to clean their cold start fuel jet in future, as although I found mention of disassembling one, it wasn't clear and I couldn't find any photos myself; Here is the fuel jet when I first got it apart. As you can see, the collar has an...

Dave, thanks for this. It is an interesting lead, and more fruitful than my previous efforts. I will try local motor stores and see what comes up also.

Ian I'll update on here if I find a better answer.

5" headlamp replacement

Hello again everyone. I'm having real trouble tracking down a replacement 5" headlamp. I've got a smashed lens so could just replace that (Agriline have them listed) but I'd prefer to replace the whole unit (lens, reflector, bulb holder) to something a bit more effective than the poor quality preten...

Many thanks Charlie, that's very useful info. I guessed it wouldn't be straight forward, nothing on our Dexta had been but I'm slowly getting it back as it should be. Works hard for a living so deserves better care :-)

Temp sensor/gauge

Is this where the temperature sensor is supposed to go? Would like to fit a gauge (it's never had one since we've had it). Are any better than others? Was looking at malpas and they have two types. Curiously the cheaper one looks generally better to my eyes... http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h45...

That's what I thought but it seemed a bit excessive. Just inner seals and maybe a selection of shims then :-)
