Re: Replacing the ignition switch 1960
Got it opened up this evening. Found a mouse nest, Sparrow nest with 3 babies under the fuel tank Blasted tree mice. Don't know how I'm ever going to get the fuel cut off cable hooked back up to the back of the injector pump. Going to hook up a temporary switch till the new one gets here. Tha...

Re: Replacing the ignition switch 1960
Thanks! I will take the side covers off and see if I can see the screws under the tank.
Not all the voltage was lost. Everything after the switch is dead. Primary voltage to the solenoid is still good as is the voltage going to the switch.

Replacing the ignition switch 1960
I believe this is a 1960. It is NOT a Super Dexta. Went to start the Dexta today and it didn't work out well. Turned on the key and everything was fine. As soon as I pushed the starter lever I lost all power. The battery is charged and the fuse is good and there is power there. I've noticed the last...

You have a good basic tractor to start with and it will be a prize when your done with it,.
Your friend needs to learn how to locate replacements for the parts he destroys. You should be commended for being patient with him. I think I would have been upset.

That's interesting as my old laptop died and I was able to sign on with the new one and had no trouble. Just did it this evening.
Maybe the Admins. were able to get the bugs out.

When I purchased the tractor the knob was missing so I machined one out of aluminum. Not original but it works.
Sorry it took so long to reply but my other computer died and I'm just finding my way back to some of the forums.

Can't help you with the linkage set up but on this Dexta when the throttle is increased the the flow from the hydraulic pump increases also.

I have this job looking me in the face but it's going to wait till spring. Think both sides will get done at the same time. Want to thank you for the information and photos you and others posted. Should make the job a lot easier.
Enjoy your tractor.

Thank you for the reply. I looked through the manual section above but didn't see that information.
I'm looking at moving the backhoe to the 850 Ford and I will need a pump. Your reply will help me size that pump.

Re: Dexta has a new job.
The frame would be a good idea and that became apparent right away. Then I discovered the float position for the boom and that made a huge difference. If this was going to be a tractor designated for the hoe I would definitely look into the frame. Most of the time it will have other chores. I'm also...

I bought this one very cheap so if it doesn't get used a lot It will be OK. Myself and 3 of the kids own acreages so I'm sure it will get used. Now I need to find a 3 point post hole auger.

Thanks Skyblue! Once I figure out how to make things go the right direction I think I'm going to like it.
Your backactor (1500lbs) weighs almost twice what mine does. That's a big backhoe.

Re: Dexta has a new job.
A video would be fantastic!! My talents with a camera are limited. Photos I can do but my luck with YouTube have not been very successful. While looking through the parts diagram I just realized that there is suppose to be another link between the back hoe and the tractor. :o It is a diagonal brace...

Re: Dexta has a new job.
I can lift the rear tires off the ground but do not do it as then every thing is hanging on the 3-point. The 3-point lifts it easily but I run it all the way down when digging. That way the weight is hanging on the sway chains. If something goes wrong they will be the first thing to break. I usually...

Re: Dexta has a new job.
The mounting is simple. Just hook it up to the 3 point hitch and go. :D I think originally it did have a sub-frame but it was converted to a three point. Works for me. Would probably work better on the ford 850 but the internal pump is very low volume. The Dexta works good, just have to be careful n...

Re: Dexta has a new job.
Your pretty sharp Ben. There is a front weight bracket on the tractor. I have an Art'sway 6' brush hog (topper) that extends about 8' behind the tractor and weighs 800 lbs. so the front of the tractor got pretty light. The back hoe weight 782 lbs. but is close behind the tractor. There is presently ...

Dexta has a new job.
Got the backhoe plumbed this morning and the internal pump runs it just fine. Thanks for your help. It was nice to find that the fill plug on the differential has the same thread pitch as pipe threads so hooking up the return line was a very simple task. :D This afternoon I dug up two tree stumps an...

That would be a real sad day in my life if I sold my Dexta.
I'm glad we don't live closer or I just might be the owner of two Dexta's.
Good luck with the sale.

Re: Dexta Backhoe?
I would think the dexta hydraulics would have to little flow to get some decent speed Filler plug sounds good. If it is slow at first that's fine as I have never run one of these things before and the slower it goes the less damage I will do. There must be some flow out of this pum...
