Re: Agriline brake peddle and clutch pedal bushes

May need reaming with either the right size or an adjusable reamer. Have used a piece of steel rod or a bolt ( head cut off), a hacksaw cut is made down the centre of one end to hold strips of emery paper, this is chucked in an electric drill set on high speed and run inside the bush, it removes mat...

On a stationary saw bench I 'd still prefer a flat belt drive.

Re: fordson power major hydraulics

I'd check/replace the piston seal first, if that doesn't fix or improve things, you may have to look further. Replacing the pison seal always fixed the problem
on the Power Major my father owned for 40 years.

Re: Rear Axle Bearing Preload

Your right about the tension wrench, mine starts at 20ft lbs anyway.
A spring scale attached to a suitable adapter should work OK, I think their is picture showing this on another thread.

Re: Rear Axle Bearing Preload

Thanks for your reply.
The Fordson tool for this adjustment appears to have a rod with a sliding weight.
Preload is stated as 40-45 inch lbs, would I be correct in stating this as 3.3- 3.75 ft lbs.

Re: Clutch and Brake x shaft bushes

See how hard they are to drive in, If they are to tight I'd be inclined to give the outside a light touch on a belt grinder, wouldn't cut a slot in them unless
it is unavoidable. Hard to know if they will need reaming until they are fitted.

Re: cylinder head

Check block for warpage and recheck sleeve protrusion.
Sleeve protrusion .002"-.004" Where sleeves have not been disturbed .001" and above is acceptable.
Clamp sleeves down using 4 bolts & washers to obtain a correct measurement.

Re: fordson major engine stand

I'd say around 800lbs.
I have recently built a stand for one and it makes things a lot easier especially if you only wish to remove the crankshaft.
Check out "Engine Stand For Dexta Block" in "Tools and Implements", should give you some ideas.

The tinwork is spiked into a groove in a number of places and is easy to prise out, there is no need for jacks or big hammers.

Re: cylinder head

Check cylinder sleeves for correct protrusion. The sleeves being to low in the block has often been the cause of a blown head gasket on Fordsons and other wet
sleeve engines.

Can't help with the date, but the hydraulics look like they are off a later model Major.
I have seen the later 3PL/hydraulics fitted to an E27N some years back.

Worked a Power Major for 40 years, Always had SAE 90 in transmission & rear axle. No rear axle or hydraulic trouble in that time. 3PTL & remote control
were used extensively for many of those years.
Have been advised not to use EP gear oils in older tractor transmissions.

Re: Sump radius pin

If you have tried all the usual ways and they havn't worked , weld something suitable to the pin that will allow you to use a reasonable amount of force, remembering that the sump is cast . Have never found one to be a problem so far, have mostly got them with a pair of multi grips and a hammer.
