Re: lack of power
If the engine has been running at low load for longer periods, check for following troubles. Stuck piston rings. Running several hours at heavy load with new turbo diesel oil will get them loose again. Inlet/exhaust channels may be partly clogged. Even the valves may have heavy coke deposits. The cr...

Re: Re-engine FMD SMD
The cast iron sump of Fordson engine is a vital part of the tractor. In any other solutions a strong subframe must be built to support the tractor. Otherwise it will brake between bell housing and engine.

Re: starter wont engage sometimes
Is the starter Lucas or some aftermarket unit?
If Lucas and starter is turning, but engine not, the reason may by slip in Bendix clutch.

Re: lack of power
Air filter may be clogged. Check even the upper part of filter. Before you have tried to run the engine with heavy load several hours with new turbo diesel oil, it is not possible to know if only piston rings are stuck.
Check also timing of pump, 21 degr. advance.

Re: I broke it!!!
Take out the rocker shaft and replace the it with a used part. Even a complete rocker shaft is not not expensive from wrecker. Important that it is from correct engine. Various rocker arm lengths exist.

Re: hi everyone engine rebuild questions
There are some alternatives what you can do. Machine the block for super cylinder liners. They are larger. Clean the groove with the black paint removing disk. Then you must only leave one side of the disk to get down in the groove and use an accudriven drill at low rpm from the crankcase side. Leak...

Re: Fordson Supermajor hydraulic problem
To understand the hydraulics first thing is to know if it is Super or np Super. All older ones have a totally different system. Short description of various valves and their function. I.e. This description is only for Super. Relief valve is on Super either short or long version. Long for np. They do...

Re: newbie - fordson power major
I was 1956 in Lapland, where they had a New Major. The winter 55/56 there was only one which started allways. The Major. Lowest temperature had been -57 Celsius degrees. Unimog to abt. -27 degrees. Excavator with 6 cyl Perkins at -8 degrees. Old US Army Jeeps at slightly below -20 degrees. Super Maj...

Re: is this normal
Even the fuel feed pump diaphragm can leak. The oil pressure switch is not a reliable sign of sufficient oil pressure. The light goes out at abt. 0,3 kilo pressure and there should be abt. 2,8 kilo with hot oil, except when idling.

Re: No Gears
I had just the same problem with my gear stick. Before loosing gears the stick started to rotate. The gear lever housing was removed and I removed the washers under the plug on left side of gear lever, then i placed the lever so that that the plug tip came deeper in the grove. (without washers) Afte...

Re: Inertia Starter
If there was a spring in the starter, it has not been an inertia starter. The only one I know was used to start the Daimler Benz engine in Messerschmitt Bf 109. There was a flywheel which was cranked to very high rpm and then with command "Kontakt" the clutch was engaged to turn the propeller hub. I...

Re: Engine Rebuild Kit
So far I know, first engines with 34,9 mm piston pin started from number 1425097.
Larger cylinder liners from no. 1575886. Number of O-rings is not a reliable sign of type. Spigoted liners always with 1 mm head gasket.

If I recommend draining, it depends on facts what I didn't list. Here we have to start with the question "Why" The whole problem starts from the quantity of condensed water. The quantity depends on the big area of free surfaces in rear axle. The whole upper part above oil level and axle tubes. Thats...

The original O-rings are of nitrile rubber which tends to harden at 80 C temperatures. I tried to measure them and it gave a material thickness of 4,65 mm. The ones I used are red slikone O-rings. Size 5 x 110 mm. They came from Holland. This material stands for temperatures over 200 degree Celsius ...
