nice but the dash is put together wrong. one thing I really like to be right, you see it the whole time you use the tractor!
does look a show winner though.

using hydraulics for brakes
I have been looking for ways to operate the brakes on a trailer I have and have been wondering about uning a small hydraulic ram coupled to the tractor hydraulics. I think this would give brakes that are either on or off but would be usefull as a safety system as the hills round here are very steep....

Re: '61 Super Major Top Link Rocker
is it not a slot to allow the rocker to move otherwise it would lock up or put strain on the draft control?
just an observation

Re: Pics of backhoe
could you not make it a pto pump?
or if you mounted it to the front you could link 2 systems together to have a greater LPM and live hydraulics
I like the design looks good but the slew pivot looks a bit light duty compaired with others. have you run stress tests on the model?

John

Trailer brakes
I have a trailer to go behind my dexta, tows well but the brake system has been cut off. I want to fit the trailer with a functioning brake system but not sure what system to use. not sure if I should just reinstate the original or change to a hydraulic system as I would have no way to operate the b...

Re: implements for dexta
I wouldnt recomend a 6ft topper. think its a bit much really, but depends what you are mowing. if it isnt too dense that 6ft will get the job done quicker. http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad22/dextajohn/Votex%20topper/IMAG0250.jpg I think 5ft would be a better size for a topper. I have a 5tf bar ...

Re: implements for dexta
what are you looking to do with your dexta? for towing, depends what the local hills are like. I had a MF35 on a trailer behind mine and had to drop into low 1st to get up some hills. wouldnt have wanted anymore weight than that behind me though. and took it nice and steady down the hills too. for a...

Re: Now with all that snow...
I did originally plan to put extra bracing on the blade but found after testing it I didnt need it. might get round to it if it becomes a problem.
Looks like we are in for a lot more snow in the morning though!

Re: Now with all that snow...
the blade is about 4-5mm thick. havent noticed it bend yet. I havenet found I need to cimb off very often I use it to push snow to the kerb 95% of the time so it stays set one way. I did design it with the possibility of hydraulics in mind. not sure I can justify the cost of hydraulics atm. did thin...

Re: Now with all that snow...
Success! managed to clear our road several times over the week. turns a 1 hour job into sub 10 mins. The whole grader blade is made from recycled parts. It is made from 5" by 3" Channel nice and heavy and dont think its going to bend. the weight certainly helps with traction. can reverse up the stee...

draft control in position control
Iwas driving along the road in the snow with a heavy weight on the rear linkage and went over a hidden bump, then link arms dropped about 4 inches measured at the ends. I could not get the arms to raise to the fully raised position. the draft control rocker had been pulled back by the jolt and once ...

pto bolts leak oil
I have a rather bad oil leak from the bolt holes that secure the pto bearing carrier. this started when i fitted a PTO guard. i have tried refitting the bolts with a smear of grease and the leak continues. whats the best way to fix the leak?

Re: Steering Radius Arm Ball Sockets
Could you buy a ball bearing of the correct size and weld it to the end of the shaft?
that way there would be not profiling needed. would probs have to be nearest metric equivelent.

John

Re: topper for dexta
I have found it suits what I will use it for. not normally as dense as in the pictures. but if it will cut that it will cut anything.
the dexta sounded very healthy after some heavy work with the topper though.

Bar mower repair.
Every time I have tried to use my bar mower recently something else on it has broken, so I have decided to go though and sort everything out. I have come across some sort of rubber bush between the drive shaft and the drive pulley. unfortunatly it has perrished, I wondered if anyone knows why it is ...

Re: topper for dexta
The work light is very useful in winter.
made using the bale spike in the dark easyer and if I have to back up on the road in the dark I can see whre im going.
Its just wired into the side light and has an on/off switch built into it. think it was about £20

John.

Got the topper up and running, been out trying it out this afternoon. certainly makes the dexta work hard. ended up in first gear for some of the more dense growth. http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad22/dextajohn/Votex%20topper/IMAG0252.jpg http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad22/dextajohn/Votex%2...

looks like a nice original dexta. I like the idea of spending a bit on it every time it earns money.
