Re: How much paint do i need
Mike, A 1.4 nozzle should be fine. You might find that it will put the paint on quite thick so you will need to watch for runs and sagging in the paint. If you are going to paint the tinwork first do a few trial runs on the inside of the panels to see how it goes on. When I mix my paint with the thi...

Re: How much paint do i need
Mike not sure if this is going to help you but when I was painting my Dexta most of the people I spoke to said that a rule of thumb is about 5 litres to do a whole tractor. I actually used about 7 litres of paint and 5 litres of red oxide but everything on mine was stripped back to bare metal.Everyt...

Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe
Old Hywel, Your theory could be right. If you look at the photos on my first post it looks like the pipe should maybe have a pigtail in it and for some reason its been straightened out. I will put a pigtail back into the pipe and try that. If im still getting a bit of fuel coming out will just fit a...

Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe
Hi Bob,
Looking at my leak off pipe it might have had a pigtail in it and been straightened for some reason. Im unsure what the pigtail actually does as well. Worth a try and nothing to lose. Cheers for the info.
Charlie.

Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe
Bob, My pump doesnt have anything linking the leak off back to tank either and think Mervyn was referring to the leak off from the injectors. I made sure that this was clear but dont see that this would have any bearing on the leak off from the injector pump. I just thought that the fuel coming out ...

Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe
Hi Mervyn, Thanks for the reply and info. I had a look at the manual which I have a copy but all the setting up of the injection pump is done on a test bench. My pump doesnt have an extra fuel valve button. Ive checked that the spill pipe to tank is not blocked as well. As Mike said in his reply tha...

Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe
Hi Mike, Many thanks for the reply. I was sure my pump is lubricated with diesel and not oil but just thought that the amount of fuel coming out of the leak off pipe was excessive. I suppose its the same as oil and always looks worse than it is. I might just fit a bottle or container of some kind to...

Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe
A while since ive required any advice on the forum. Had the Dexta out for a good workout on the plough today. Diesel is leaking from the injector pump leak off pipe all the time while she is running it is dripping constantly. No fuel in oil and she is running sweet with no smoke and plenty pulling p...

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
Hi Mike, Dont know about a sore neck but plenty of headaches. Having said that I have a good crew of crane mechanics looking after them. The plough is a Ransomes Robin. Ive spent a lot of money on it replacing a lot of the metal and adding discs and skimmers. Still playing around setting it up. Ive ...

Re: Help with identification
Georgey48,
Your trumpets date from Oct 4th and 18th 1962. Looks like you have a genuine Dexta and not a bitser as all the casting codes date from late 1962 and serial number from Jan 1963. As I said earlier I wouldnt worry about the engine as many were replaced.
Regards
Charlie.

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
Hi Mike, Sorry for the late reply. Im an offshore crane supervisor looking after 50 cranes on a super complex so it keeps me busy. I bought the vintage style plate and fixed it to the brackets with 3M double sided tape as I didnt want to spoil the new plate by drilling it. It been power washed and h...

Re: Help with identification
Georgey48, Hopefully the following will help you in identifying the year of Dexta you have. From my information that I have your tractor serial number dates it to Jan 1963. The gearbox casting code dates from Dec 21st 1962. You need to get the casting codes from the rear trumpets as in below photos ...

Wee59Dexta, Ive hunted high and low and turned everything upside down in my workshop to try and find the parts that you are looking for without any success im afraid. Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
Rob, Well done on getting your project completed and to your first show. With me moving positions and to a different country my rotation has been all to pot and sadly I've missed all the shows so far this year. I was hoping to show mine at The Tractor World Show at Ingliston earlier in the year but ...

Re: Help wanted - what does a 1959 Dexta Horn sound like?
Mike
My original horn on my 58 Dexta has quite a low note to it and sounds just like it should the same as a lot of your vintage horns rather than the noise of a strangled duck. If I can get a video of it when I get home I will send it to you.

Re: Very tight ball joints.
Mervyn, The drag link ends are usually tight when new. Yours are probably tighter than normal with sitting for a considerable time and need worked just to get everything moving again. Just a suggestion but you could raise the front of the tractor to get the weight of the front wheels and work the st...

Re: Sealing my tank
Mike,
Good to see you have your tank sealed. I did exactly the same with mine. There had been a few bodged repairs done to it in the past. The key of it all is to make sure the inside of the tank is spotless. That's over 2 years since I did mine and it's still good.

Re: Adjustment of rear brakes.
Mervyn,
Glad to see you have your brakes sorted out. I have only been able to see your comment on my posting about your rear brakes. Brakes should be adjusted up first then the handbrake. You sure are making good progress. Hopefully you have found the bolts for the handbrake.

Hi, I may have a spare one lying around that came off my tractor as when I was looking for parts for mine I managed to get everything from a guy locally. The thumb part I had but the other part was missing. I'm not home for another 4 weeks so if your not in a hurry I will have a look when I get home...

Well done Mervyn. I had faith in you getting her up and running. It's a great feeling isn't it. That's the major hurdles crossed now so not much to do to get her all finished. Can't wait to see some pics.

Re: Front wheels not running true to the rear wheels.
Jerry, Im afraid I need to correct you on what your last post said. For ploughing its the wheel centres that must be closely matched or as near to each other as possible. The front wheel inner wall will not be in line with the inner wall of the rear wheels as the front wheels should not rub or run o...

Re: Front wheels not running true to the rear wheels.
Mervyn, I have spent some time up at my Dexta today and have taken some measurements and have a few things for you to try out and see if we can sort out your steering problem. You will need some help with the measuring tape. Firstly measure from centre to centre of the rear tyres. On my Dexta this i...
