I'm working on a neighbors Jan 54 Major with no excess fuel button on the injection pump, is there any trick to starting this thing or do you just crank on it till it starts?

Re: 6D Power Major
we just made some L shaped brackets out of angle iron and bolted them to the bottom holes in the bell housing to "pinch" the bottom lip of the oil pan. my permanent plan is still to weld more material on the bottom of the pan to be able to use all the bell housing bolts and also weld in ribs to the ...

Re: The Doe
You guys are correct, it is a chance we take running these old girls, but to me they aren't worth having if they are parked inside and never used. Rick, it almost sound like you know what your doing when a serial # needs to be changed  I'm thinking I'll be teaching granny how to run the Doe f...

Just to set the record straight...... Frode doesn't park his tractor in the garage, he parks the garage over his tractor!

Re: The Doe
OK, its been a long busy summer but I am getting caught up on a few things. We had a little bit of a setback on the Doe project, the rear half has been my good utility tractor for the last few years doing everything from mowing grass to skidding logs from the woods. but just two days before Marcs we...

The friends in the pic, Lary, a year or two behind me in school, my oldest sister almost married one of his brothers of a big family that we have always been fairly close with. The young lady with the beer in her hand is Jen, my cousins fiancé. I will have to get a better pic of her with one of the ...

Re: Rarity of optional equipment on Majors
The rarity of options is probably largely dependent on the location. The pick up hitches are scarce to non existent over here in the US, but the auto clutch release were fairly common over here in my part of Wisconsin, as well as raised PTO and power steering. The Row Crops were mostly exclusively US...

Re: Getting ready to paint the Selene/Power Major
Thanks Pavel! The next morning several fiends and family were sitting down having breakfast on the grounds, one of them was my Aunt Sue that happens to have a good humor. During the mornings conversation Granny complained that her back hurt the night before so she went downstairs to sleep in her rec...

We all had a great weekend in Symco, I took home a Trophy for best restored antique 2. apparently there wasn't a lot of competition this year! Marc pulled with Walter at Symco last weekend in the 6000lb class, took 4th out of over 40 tractors. Walter is pulling a lot stronger with a good head gasket!
Mike also pulled with the 54 and took 7th in the 5000lb class.

Yes all 17 are the same.
I believe the shims are still available from New Holland, and I have seen them available from a few online vendors. I cut my own from shim stock with a good sharp scissors so the edges are clean/sharp. very seldom do I find sleeves that actually need to be shimmed.

Re: Super Major Injection Pump oil level
It's not uncommon for the original head bolts to stretch, I have had several that wouldn't go to full torque, the more I tightened them the more they would stretch. I now use only ARP HAR4-625-5 bolts, they are a little pricy but you can petty much bet your ass they wont fail. I also retorque after ...

Edmajor, please post some pictures for us! did the bell housings bolt up directly or was there and adaptor plate?
Until now if I would have stumbled across one of these I would have assumed someone wrecked a major by stuffing the wrong motor in it!

Re: Karma and a Super Six
We went camping out at Grandmas this 4th of July holiday weekend and I took the Super Six along to tinker with while we were out there. I finally got the wiring harness I made on it, got the new Generator/dynamo working as well as a stop cable and some other things. when I was done the guys kept bug...
