Tacho drive
My dextas tacho didnt work when I got the tractor, naturally I do want it working when the tractor is finished, so I tested it earlier, the tacho itself is ok, but it looks like the cable has sheared inside the injector pump. What I want to know is, to remove the tacho drive do you just undo the fou...

Re: Dexta Handbrake Pawl
Hi Gerald,
Yes I purchased one of them, but unfortunately their kit only repairs their new handbrakes, not the standard ones. Meaning you have to cut a circular slot and grind and drill and mess around, when all I really need is the little square pawl bit

Dexta Handbrake
Hi, has anyone got any pictures of your dextas handbrake, especially where the pawl slides up and down, and if possible a picture of the pawl? Im trying to repair my original handbrake, the pawl is missing, and im going to make one. I have bought a repair kit from ALP, but it means alot of mucking a...

Dexta Handbrake Pawl
Hi guys, I am in need of a standard dexta handbrake pawl, the bit that slides up and down when the handbrake button is pressed and engages with the bit that fixes to the wing.
Anyone got one I can purchase?

Re: Engine oil pressure
Yeah, looks like I have put an air gauge on it, not oil damped! which is why im getting strange readings so im going to buy one. Im not comfortable just having the oil light, so im going to install a y adaptor in the block so I can wire the dash light and a discreet oil pressure gauge somewhere, jus...

Re: Engine oil pressure
Well, it runs!!! Although it was a bit hesitant at first, I dont think the battery on it is big enough, and not turning it over fast enough, ive got it charging now so we will see. Regarding oil pressure, its still registering high, but I think the gauge i have is for air not liquid, would that make...

Re: Engine oil pressure
Hi, thanks for the reply. I was just a little surprised that it would hit 60psi just on the starter motor, although because everything is so new and tight inside the engine I suppose it should be high, and then maybe drop a little once run in. I will be happier once I see oil at the rockers too thou...

Engine oil pressure
Hi guys, what do your dextas have in the way of oil pressure? As some of you know, I have just totally re-built mine, meaning three liners, one conrod, pistons, rings, crank re-grind, new shells, new oil pump, basicly everything is brand new and tight. I have put 15w 40 oil in it, should it be diffe...

Re: New Dexta Live Clutch
I didn't get chance to post yesterday, but a couple hours and it was all done! Really wasn't too bad at all, had a bit of adjusting to do to get the freeplay right at the top of the pedal but I was being fussy. The worst bit was I was on my own, I just kept making sure it was all level, I also kept ...

Re: New Dexta Live Clutch
Hi Ian, thanks for your reply! By intermediate ring, do you mean those four spacer things in the picture in the top of your links? If so, my clutch had none of them on it?? I also, managed to luckily track down an old stock original thrust bearing on ebay, for £32.00! So I don't have to worry about ...

Re: New member, hydraulic issue
Ah I didn't realise it had to be baked to make it work again, I suppose you could hang it from the oil filler bung somehow to save taking the top off, another hair brained idea from me lol!
Guess the only way like has been said, is to heat it a bit!

Re: new member - super major or power major
Hi, have you any pictures of your new tractor? A couple ways to quickly identify your tractor are, does it have disc brakes or drum brakes, is your front tombstone flat at the front or is it slightly shaped - picture will help :D You can drain just the gearbox oil, there is a square shaped plug on t...

New Dexta Live Clutch
Hi guys and girls, I've just ordered a new clutch assembly from Malpas tractors, should be here next week, and i'm hoping to fit it next weekend. My question is, not having fitted a clutch before to a tractor, does the new assembly require setting up on the clutch fingers, or is it literally bolt on...

Hi, I don't think they will fit, also you need to remove the hub too I think. Ive never got involved in steel wheels on a major. Anyone else care to add anything??

Re: New member, hydraulic issue
Hi everyone, this is an interesting thread! I was fitting a consumer unit the other day at work, and a little bag of silica gel fell out, which keeps moisture out of the box (obviously water and electric doesn't mix too well). This gave me an idea, would a bag of silica somewhere in the backend solv...

Re: Early Dexta thrust washers
Hi, thanks for the comment, I really couldn't see any other way around it to be honest! Another thing to bear in mind to anyone else in this situation, is the rear sump caulk oil seal which runs around the rear main bearing carrier is also different, its smaller than the later engined ones, so the o...

Re: Early Dexta thrust washers
Ive just seen the post on this subject, (I should of searched first lol) looks like they are going to be hard to get hold of! I may have to go down the route of machining the bearing cap to suite. Unless anyone knows any different?

Early Dexta thrust washers
Got a bit of an issue I think, Im in the middle of engine re-assembly, and im fitting the thrust washers. The engineering company my engine went to, supplied new thrust washers, but for the later engine. Mine is an early engine, with the offset locating tabs on the thrust washers, can you still get ...
