David, We live and learn. A full and proper tractor restoration requires you to spend more money than the tractor's eventual worth. As is illustrated on Stephan's web site featuring his refurbished Dexta. But surely you must find consolation in owning such a stunning tractor! Fortunately there are s...

From these threads it would appear that the true colour of the grilles cannot be established as even the official Ford publications show them in different colours. This must obviously cause a problem when performing a restoration. My own thoughts are whilst trying to maintain authenticity during res...

The sidelights are fixed with screws and not bolts. Please don't use gutter bolts they look dreadful on an old tractor and have spoilt many a restoration! Whilst the conduit and wires are missing, there are clips fitted on the rear edges of the mudguards on my old tractor suggesting that the conduit...

Neil, I have just found a wiring diagram which clearly shows the rear lighting circuit being split by means of a bullet connector. With two black cables running left and right which in turn are split by means of bullet connectors to provide feeds to the number plate light and the trailer socket. You...

There are separate wires running from the light switch either side to the right and left hand rear lights. If you look you will see that the footplate support brackets are joggled to accomodate the conduit, ie. the conduit is supported between the brackets and the foot plate. The cables then run up ...

Hi Frank,

I know that the advert claims that they are new bearings, however the photo suggests that there is white metal in the oil grooves and where the horns are washed away. One would therefore expect to find white metal on the bearing surfaces.

Quite a puzzle.

Bearing shells.

Hi, Brian's article and photos covering the stripdown of Henrietta's engine prompt me to raise this query. Having stripped a couple of Dexta engines, I was surprised to find that the white metal lining on all the bearing surfaces had dissapeared, but was still evident in the oil grooves and that the...

Cost of Fuel.

In defence of the oil producers, you can't blame them for putting up the cost of crude oil, when for many years the Greedy British and European Goverments have been making more money per barrel of crude from taxes than the producers. The Abu Dhabi Oil Company I worked for in the nineteen nineties wa...

James, If you have a spare parts manual or refer to the one on Stephan's web site, Fig. 6 Steering gear item 14 "Shaft and main Nut assembly", this shows the main nut which screws onto the shaft and which in turn is splined to suit the steering wheel. So sadly the only way out of this problem is to ...

Welded steering wheel.

Hi James, I have encountered the same problem, where the steering wheel was welded on to the main nut as the splines were worn. As a consequence I had to grind the welds out in order to remove the wheel and to gain access to the steering column top cover. If you have a lot of play in the straight ah...

Hydraulic Filter

According to my notes the filter is a Purolator 178.

UnfortunatelyI no longer have access to a filter equivalents book, however you could ask at your local Factors if they can supply this filter or an equivalent!
