Engine oil for '54/56 Power Major?

Post by SimonT »

Hello,

I've just bought a 1954/1956 Fordson Power Major from to top my field with.

I need to stick some engine oil in it. I've searched the forum to find the correct type but have received conflicting information. Can anyone tell me which oil to use?

I understand I should get it from the classic car section of www.morrislubricantsonline.co.uk

But should I get either:
SAE 20/50W
or
(for -7 to32C) S.A.E 20 HD or S.A.E. 20W/30W HD

Thanks for any help.

Oh, while I am here, I might re-paint the wheels. Does anyone know exactly what the original paint colour is? Thanks.

Welcome Aboard Matey. :D You should post this in the New Major group on this site. Brian has a sticky on engine oils at the top of that thread. Also, Power Majors were built 59, 60, 61. We can get you close to the year and month with your serial number. And photos of your tractor are always nice. Dandy Dave!
Have a Fordsonful day Folks!

Ah. I was worried whether I'd got the right group.
I did see the sticky but then read some other info here that seemed to contradict it and, as as you can see I'm not even sure which tractor I have!
I'll post some photos and the serial number (assuming I can find it!) in the forum you mention.

Thanks for your help.
