4wd county Fordson

Hi, how is a '54 converted to 4wd. Are parts still available . Any detailed pics showing the drive train etc.

Not many were converted. Some were turned into a County 4 Drive but this would be an impossible task today. They had a crawler rear axle, fixed dif. County Crawler steering brakes and clutches and a chain drive to the front wheels.

The easier conversion if money is no object, would be to convert her to a Roadless. This would involve fitting a spliter slice to get the front axle drive, behind the gearbox, then fitting a Roadless front axle and wheels.

She would be grossly underpowered as the 54 Major is only around 40hp.

There were most of the parts needed to make up a Roadless major at the Cambridge vintage sale on saturday. An axle in pieces and needing serious work which had been resprayed although it had obviously been sat around prior to that judging by the deep rust pitting made around £420 + comission, a 4WD transfer box looking more or less complete with PTO extension shaft etc made £500 + commission and a pair of front wheel rims with cast centres made £420+commission. No propshaft or slip clutch was offered.
Bits dont often turn up but they are about....at a price
