NP Super cam shaft

Postby AdrianNPMajor » Sat Dec 21, 2013 6:14 pm

The cam shaft on the NP Super has featured in various threads. I had to change mine because it was showing signs of wear on a couple of the cam lobes. After reading Brian's answers to other threads I now know why. Just wanted to make this observation. The New Holland replacement cam that I fitted had differently shaped lobes from the original - the replacement had more pointed lobes. I wondered how the rebuilt engine would run. I was relieved to find out that it ran very smoothly, and more so than before. The engine sounds more like a truck engine than a tractor engine, if that makes any sense!

Could anyone explain why the design of the cam was changed by New Holland and was the change of design done during the period of manufacture of the engine, or did the design change come later for the spares market? :scratchhead:
