Hello,

I'm in the UK. I want to register my Fordson Major.
Its has a number plate, but online the DVLA said they can locate the information. I don't have a log book.

Anyone been in this situation and know what to do.

DVLA can or can't locate any information?

If they have info on your reg perhaps because your tractor was taxed in the 1980's (say) then getting a V5C should be straight forward.

If they have no info, your best bet is to contact the county council who issued your reg and ask for a signed copy of the entry of your reg in their archive. Armed with this you should be able to get your reg, unless it's been sold off, by applying to the DVLA. But may be easier to do this if you go through a vintage tractor club.

If you enter the make and reg no on the DVLA page https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla and it recognises the reg then it should be straightforward, otherwise as bensdexta posted

Quite what it is like dealing with Swansea I don't know, I did mine just before they closed the Norwich office, then Swansea screwed it up......

A lot depends on what sort of day they are having at Swansea, a man came into my yard yesterday who was having a lot of trouble, he had taken advice from someone in Devon who specialises in getting registrations but the DVLA would not recognise the information on the application form. It had been backwards and forwards about 4 times.

Mentioned it to Pat Pawsey of the Ford and Fordson Club who looks after the registrations for the Club and without help, he says its a bit hit and miss. I would do as Ben says and get a bit of help, it may cost a small amount but it can be worth it.

When I did mine I took pictures of all the casting codes, serial numbers and of the tractor working, went into the Norwich office and laid it all on the counter along with the form, in and out in 10 minutes. When I did Henrietta I had the number and the brown log book but they would not accept it at Swansea and I had to have an age related number.

They cant locate the information.

At the moment the tractor isn't ready for the road but I was just thinking about it.

So where are all of the serial and casting number then?

just looked online, and found that the reg is from dorset (my home county) so this will make things easier

On this board we have something called "The Wiki" and it is a very underused feature. I have put a lot of information and stories on there. You will need "fordsontractorpages" and password "dotty" to get on but it is worth it.

Cheers Brian, I've looked at that and it seems helpful.

I don't need to fuss around with all that yet, got bigger problems, but thanks for the advice, the DVLA website is rubbish in comparison to all you lots knowledge
