hydraulics crosshaft bushing

Hello,

Looking at the play on my crosshaft, there is like 2mm play on it. There are brass bushes sold, but also steel ones. Which one to choose and why?

im not sure what the difference is but i went for bronze bushes in the end




also fitted a new cross shaft.

Bronze bush correct. When you have a moment, worth researching the different types of bronze - phosphor, manganese, aluminium, etc.

The bushes arrived last week. Is a reamer needed or will they fit?
The tractor is back in the workshop to renew the axle shaft seals and the pedal cross shaft.
Need to find someone to repair the shaft, as it had better days.

making progress in the workplace. the shaft is being welded, to get machined down like new.

I also got the hydraulics crosshaft out.
Do I need 4 bushings?
Can I still use my shaft?

That's a bit corroded, if the welding doesn't work out go to someone who refurbishes big hydraulic cylinders you could probably get it metal sprayed cheaper with less chance of distortion, then they can turn it down to the bush sizes you have. Haven't got access to the parts drawings/list as its on my dead laptop, have a look as it probably shows if 2 or 4 bushes needed (Fordson.se ? someone will know where it is posted)

I'm busy trying to release the yokes on the lift rods from the cylindrical bits inside, one down, one to go so far, then I can get the lower links down far enough for the tines of my 'new' Fergie buckrake to touch the ground, thus allowing timber to be picked up rather than manhandling

Isn't it better/cheaper to get a new shaft then, I don't have access to such a big turning machine? Will the old arms fit on the new shaft?

Good question Mathias, a new shaft made to the correct tolerances should fit, are new shafts made that well ?? I don't know but someone may have tried them.

As for 'bitch' bits, I have been fighting the tubes which should slide in the yokes at the bottom of the TPL drop arms, lots of heat and a hammering sorted the fixed length link but the one on the leveling box side just wouldn't respond, I ended up lashing the jaws of my hydraulic pullers with Bowden cable (so they didn't keep sliding off the yoke) and with more heat and full torque on the puller just managed to drive it out.

Perhaps that is what you need to push / pull your top arm off the spline or do you know anyone with a hydraulic press ?

The 'magic' home made penetrating fluid (50:50 ATF-Q and Acetone) helped enormously, it wasn't rusted but cemented with dried grease and fine soil.

These lift parts had no protection from the weather if the tractor lived outside or as ours did in an open sided shed.

If I remember rightly I got a new shaft and sledged hammered the old one out then I got one of the siezed yokes off in the press. Can't remember how many bushes but I think there is some spacers.

Looking at my picture there is only two bushes and two spacers(the origianal one's should be fine)

Did you only get a new shaft, or also new arms?
I wonder if the after market shaft is exactly the same as the original

The old arms fitted the new shaft perfectly. I was worried myself at first.
