kissamo,

First you will need to see what type of pump you have, old vaccum governed pump or new mechanical pump. If you put up a picture we can help.

Depending on how "dead" it is, a diesel injection shop can probably fix it. A vacuum or mechanical pump will fit on a Mk. III block. You may have to drill and thread some holes.

Dear All,
I am looking for some guidance regarding a new diesel lift pump i have fitted. While fitting i felt that the new unit appears tight against the cam lobe and id visibly slightly longer than the original unit, would this be common? I haven't yet turned the engine over pending any guidance.

HaydnA,
Do you mean that you have to hold the pump in with one hand, so you can put the bolts in with the other? If so, that is normal, depending on the position of the fuel pump lobe on the cam. If you can tighten the bolts, without using an excessive amount of force, release the compression release and see if you can turn the engine over by hand. If you can, it should be ok to start it.
One more question. Is your lift pump mounted on the engine block or the injector pump?

Hi JC,
Sorry for not being able to reply previously,
I managed to fit the lift pump, All went well and our field was finally cut, although sadly within the last week or so i've found that someone local to our place has realised that parts can be expensive/hard to find an stolen the whole diesel pump from the tractor and also smashed the glass bowl on the lift pump!!
The lift pump worked well while it was all in working order though.

As Henk Said :(

Where in the world are you ? if UK (Wales by the name ??), PM me the diameter of glass you need as I have a few from different pumps, I'f I've one which is likely to fit I'll happily pop it in the post for you - can't do much about the injection pump but this might save the cost of another lift pump.

Why can't that sort have Fergies and go and plague their owners...............
