Cracked block
Re: Cracked block
Hi Gerald
The oil pump and pipes were as per how I bought it.
I will have a good look at the pump to see if it has any identifying marks on it.

Sodium Silicate or water glass used to stop the leak

I have been reading about water glass if I run into a problem i will give this a try first.

A few more pics
Head fitted:
Side shot (I use the rocker cover to keep the internals clean)
And as much paint as I can manage going onto that certain item that has a lump of 'A' attached to it!

Re: Cracked block
I'm intrugued as to where the oil pipe goes to after coming of the through adapter on the right rear of the head.
Does it connect to the centre of the rocker shaft?

Re: Cracked block
Not a problem as in that shot, the rocker shaft is not tightened down.YorkshireDextaMan wrote:Don't think i would have put the head on without the timing gears been fitted,

Re: Cracked block
Yes Jerry it does, it goes to the brass part that you can see half way along the shaft.Jerry Coles wrote:I'm intrugued as to where the oil pipe goes to after coming of the through adapter on the right rear of the head.

Re: Cracked block
Initial prep has been to go at everything with a wire brush in the end of the drill (hence why it is taking ages).
Then wipe down with thinners.
A coat of primer (zinc rich in this case as it what we use on the loco).
Then mutiple coats of blue with the final being thinned.
Brush applied.

This stuff is Tractol which I am quite impressed with (bought from Southern County Tractor Spares) as its been quite tolerant of the odd knock!

Re: Cracked block
That's interesting. I had never heard of Tractol till last week when we were clearing a load of old paint from the stores in work (mostly emulsion, vinyl matt and gloss) and i found 15 litres of Tractol DB Orchid amongst the hundreds of useless tins. Needless to say these will find there way to my workshop and have been saved from the skip
