We did not see too many of those here either but world wide they were far more numerous than "our" petrol Dexta. They bult all that range up to the 5000 with a petrol engine.

Petrol Dexta/2000

Post by The Swanndri Guy »

Petrol 2000/3000 are certainly not rare over here, they are no where near as common as the diesel 2000/3000.Every now and then one will crop up on "trademe.co.nz" Currently there is a 2000 petrol that "looks" a bit better than the one on ebay with only NZ $1600. Some of these petrol 2000/3000 tractors have been converted to run on Compressed Natural Gas.Has any one got any pictures of one running on CNG, or know of one still running on CNG? TSG.

I owned one of those a few years ago, and I didn't know it was a Dexta Petrol. I thought it was just a 1967 Ford 2000, me and my son bought it and fixed it up, new paint and decals then sold it.
We got $3400.00 out of it, with a set of deerfield ploughs, disc, and grader blade. The tractor was in good shape, but the rest was worn out. If only I had of know it was a dexta I wouldn't have sold it. :stress:
See ya

It was never really a true Dexta. Ford used the names of the tractors as a marketing ploy in Europe. The early tractors were so well liked and had a good reputation so Ford decided to keep the names and trade off their popularity.

Dexta 2000, Super Dexta 3000, Major 4000 and Super Major 5000. The names were then left off the decals around 1968 leaving just the numbers.

Ford did sell the original Dexta in the US as a Dexta 2000 around 1963 to 1964 which really complicates things.

Is there much commonality of the parts eg for Ford 2000/3000 with the true Dextas? I believe the back ends have quite a bit in common?
All the best,

Bendexta, as I own both a Super Dexta and a 3000, the castings for the rear ends are completely different. As for the inturnal components,I would expect they are different too, but can not say for sure. TSG.[/quote]

Some parts like the ram cylinder can be used with a lot of modification but apart from that, nothing is the same.
