Steering Column Shims

Post by RossM »

I've fitted a steering column repair kit today but require more shims. Does anyone know who sells them? or have some knocking about? I've checked Agriline, Sothern Counties and Dunlops websites with no luck.

Try your local ag mechs, they may have some lying about. Or a breakers.

I've got the same problem, my local ag mechanics either put them in a bin or a safe place never to be found again. I've decided to use packing material unless I find some spares by the time I reassemble the tractor.

Its easy to make your own, take out the studs lay the packing material over the end of the column and gently tap it with a ball pein hammer so the casting cuts through the packing material. best done with the top nut etc,. removed.

Not quite so easy to do with shim material....

Regards
Andy

hi potty perkins, i'm in Poulton-Le-Fylde near Blackpool. I've contacted Malcolm Hipperson through his ebay shop to see if he has any secondhand.

As a temporay measure you can make up whatever thickness you require using cardboard or cut a shim from a plastic milk bottle or an old tin can.

If you are really stuck let me know what thickness you require and I will make you one.
