Hi
I have used a Lucas 17ACR with no problems.
These are easy to obtain from most scrapyards. As it is rather exposed try finding one with minimum rust on the body and give it a lick of paint before fitting.

Thanks Jerry, Is that the type usually found on something British like a Mini or Metro etc? Also are they a 45 amp?

i used a 17acr on my dexta and that was from a mini, i think they are 35amp, much better than a dynamo as it keeps the battery topped up better and doesnt take as long to charge they say 20mins to put in the battery what was taken out on start up and with a dynamo it takes longer.

Regards
James
