brakes

i have got to fit new brakes and i know the brake springs can be very difficult to fit. whats the best method to refit the brakes?

Yep they can be stubborn buggers.

Usually i take a piece of very strong wire,like the nylon stuff used on haybales.
I use about a foot and a half,and tie it so that it forms a circle.
Then fit the one end of the spring,and use the wire to pull the other end of the spring into its place.
If necessary you can cut the wire afterwards for easy retrieval.
Simpler and cheaper than those fancy pliers,which always seem to slip...

many thanks for the advice. i do think the shoes may have been changed for ones from a fergie because the 2 sides dont match. is there any difference in the springs from a fergie becuse the pedal does not return correctly any thoughts on the problem or solution? could the holes be in a slightly different place.?

Well i don't know about Fergies,but i do know that some aftermarket brakeshoes have fewer holes,thus fewer places to put the springs in.
On my tractor this was the case,and the lack of such a spring did indeed cause the brakepedals to not return fully.
I'm afraid i will have to drill some extra holes.
