Fire Screen

Post by russelm »

A question regarding the fire screen on a Dexta

I note it has some of the 'white stuff' (Asbestos) on it.....although its in good nick and not showing signs of deteriorating, I assume its best (expertly) removed and disposed off (professionaly) and replaced with something a little more suitable.

Question is.....whats more suitable!

Most suitable is not to touch it and give it a coat of paint to seal it.
Best regards

Before I replaced a couple of loose rivets:

Sealed my asbestos with a coat of Owatrol Oil. Then painted it with Q-Coat.

Looks fine

Ok.

I do have the opportunity to get it removed for little money as we have some contractors in removing some asbestos from a Loco at the moment hence the question

Don' t touch it. It is no problem if painted and left alone.

I've always wondered why my SDex does not have this part. It's a 64. Is it missing or never there???

The equivalent part on the Super D is much smaller. According to the parts list it looks like it changed in April 1962.
All the best,
