Brake Drum small retaining springs

Is there an easy way of replacing the small springs that hold the brake shoes, the spring that fits on a metal pin with a "T" end. I have a lot of time on my hands but I would like to get it done before Christmas (lol). Do these springs have a special name?

While I am here, when I put my foot on the brake only the top shoe moves, surely they should both move. Am I better replacing the whole lot? will it all fit together easier with new bits?

Hello Woodseaves,

Those springs are held around that pin by a little disc.
If you hold the pin in the brake backing plate,and push on that disc and then rotate it a quarter turn,then release it should come apart.
The springs come complete with new pin and disc.
Agriline sells them.

Of course they should both move,but usually the shoe with the least friction will move first.
When that fully engages the brakedrum the other will follow.
That is what i found on my tractor,as the hole where the brake rod thing rotates in is kinda oval (worn?).
This gives the system some slack.

I would not worry too much,mine works fine now that everything is put together again.
Just put the right grease on the right spots to keep the shoes lubricated.
