Starter Help

Post by Jim Cultra »

Howdy all,
I'm new to the group.
I have a '59 Dexta, diesel; which has a bad starter. Coil/field stud broke off and disconnected, plus the drive gear needs replace. I searched the web for replacement/rebuilds, and ordered the "newer" lucas system from mid atlantic parts. This new starter has about 1/2 " less throw (engagement) length than the original lucas.
Any suggestions on where I might get a resonable replacement starter??
Jim

If you live in the USA try Burgh Implement somewhere in PA. they have a website. I just bought a throw-out bearing from them so I know they have a diesel Dexta in the back lot.

where abouts are you located might be able to help. dexta starters are quite expensive not not all that comman, the back half of a major starter is identical. the front aluminium casting is a mirror of the dexta one. and both starters rotate the same way. you can swap parts about between the two. worked for me.

regards,
John
