A small cable tie around it would give peace of mind and maintain the corrosion proofing of the zinc plating. Having said that I've seen many similar clip on air rams in industry and they do good service.
Look at it this way Ben, that type of clip has been on vehicles for nearly 60 years without problems, why should they start now. A split pin can be worn with vibration and break far more easily.

IMHO We should always remember that things were done in the factory (any manufacturer of anything in the world!) to save time, trouble and cost and were not always the best engineering solution was used.

Just noticed that some of mine have been welded or drilled and pinned at some point. I think i'll remove the blob of weld and do it proper! Bertie should have them, cheers!
Would Hipperson's also happen to have both the clips for the hood/bonnet support rod? ( Or any other supplier?)
The throttle clips are still holding on our '62 S Dextas but I do admit that I have wondered about them!?
However, the throttle down shaft on one had to be welded to the connector arm as it let loose at some time. (Visible in your photo)
Cheers,
Les
PS> Got the fuel filter spring installed and looks great. Thanks again!
I would reccommend a check on the tywrap every 5 minutes to ensure it hasn't broken.
If it has then secure it with two tywraps and check it every 10 minutes.
Not forgetting of course that once the tywrap has broken you are back to having a belt but no braces. You could always resort to the good old method of emergency repair of a good length of baler twine wrapped round the rod at least 6 times and tied with 17 half hitches, two reef knots and a sheet bend to really secure it. I think the demise of the good old wire bound balers was a sad loss of that everyday repair item - baler wire, good for rabbit snares etc to supplement the farm kitchen.

Bertie Dunlop does have them. And to be honest a guy can worry too much. You should have seen what was holding my rods together, lol. This was the first time I knew these clips existed so I'm buying them off Bertie.
When about twelve years old I was rolling with an E27N paraffin engined tractor when the throttle rod uncoupled. A ball end came out of a cup joint.
The engine raced and I thought it would blow up. I got her out of gear, jumped off and ran. After a few minutes the engine was still racing. I made a cautious approach from the rear and was brave enough to grab the rod end and stop the tractor. Stuck the ball end back in the cup and carried on rolling.
Worth making sure that your throttle linkage is secure!
