fordson dexta

Post by j.weel »

Hello first let me introduce myself
I am jeroen and I am from Holland
I have restored some classic cars in the past but now

here the storie about my fordson dexta
My father was a farmer and he owned a ford dexsta 4 cilinde diezel
sadly he sold it becose of starting problems
when my father past away I had the task of maintaining the farm fore some time
but I found out fast I could not do without a small tractor
so if got me an old original fordson dexsta in working order
it was like jou can ecspekt a near barn find but it fit the job

after some jears of lojal surfice the cluts broke down
becose the farm was fore sale at that time that was no problem
and the dexsta was reting fore better times

that time is now
I have a new workshop and even a new frind that wants to lurn the art of restoring
the dexsta looked like a good rening start fore him
He replaced the cluts and dismantold most of the dexsta
I had told him to make pictures and noted of every step writing down every bolt
and make notes of the electrical system coding every kabol
wel he took it a part
and he let a frind of him taking out the electrical system
and that frind just janked it out making no notes and pictures

I have buyed a lot of new parts including a new electrical cabolset
but that dus not seem the same as the original

also the original layout of the dachboard is not known anymore my student forgot to make pictures
my dexsta is from 1958 and its a 3 cylinder perkins diezel with single cluts

my problem is
I am a great metalworker and painting is no problem fore me
but when its electrical I don't know

can anybody help me out

most metalwork is done now
panting the dexsta wil be done in may after that I want to bild it up

Download the electrical workshop manual here:
Section 9 Electrical http://tractorspares.ie/Manual%20Part9.pdf

There is a Dexta wiring diagram at the end of this document.

I have got a big load of new parts fore my dexsta but most are imitation some good some resanabole and some bad
the new glow buton broke apart richt out of the box
and the new headlichts are not the same as the original set

I also have bin told new imitation platework is of low quality steel
I dit got me a new sadole pan
and I am thinking on buying new floorboards but that is were I wil stop
it must be as original as posibole

Check the colours of the wires against the diagram, then you can see which wires are extra and may be not needed. I would remove any unnecessary wires.

Looks a nice tractor, and great metal work you are doing.

thanks I wil gife it a go when I have it reddy
that dus mean I wil strip douwn the wiering and re tape it after removing all the exstra mess

about the metalwork
that is rely my thing I can make just about anything from metal
the only thing is
jou always neet to make the calculation of
is the part avalabole on the market what dus it cost and houw much time wil I have to put in to make it myself

in case of the nose a new nose here in Holland dus around 800 euro
and is imitation
fixsing the original nose was 1 whole day work calculating about 20 euro an ouwer times 8 is 160 euro
5 euro of materials is a total of 165 euro a lot les than 800 and original

everybody that is working on a project needs to make these calculations
becose in some cases its way more ecspensive if jou make a part joursef becose of the time jou need to put in to it

Hi Jeroen, the wiring diagram Bensdexta has referred you to is spot on, this is the one i used when i rewired my baby. I also found extra wires in the new wiring so I just did not connect them to anything :buddies:

You have a good basic tractor to start with and it will be a prize when your done with it,.
Your friend needs to learn how to locate replacements for the parts he destroys. You should be commended for being patient with him. I think I would have been upset.

I have located the part price is not to bad also
new about 200 euro,s fore a radiator
so no problems
were work is done and thins to be lurned things can go wrong
becoming upset is not helping
but showing houw it sjud be done is
200 euro,s is a small price fore a long life lesson
he wil not make the same mistake agen that is what makes it worth
when the dexsta is done he wil have lurnes about taking time to see things over
so he can do the things he wants to do properly

I also found out that they offer a set of rear fenders with the original enfo inprint on it
drawback is they only sel sets
but only one of my fenders is beond my demants of restorability
the left one looks nice but is fixst on a way I cant agree with
the richt one is rather ok some small welding and its like new
so I am thinking to buy a set
make the repairs on the one that is ok and sel that one
its the richt side and its original

Good original fenders are hard to find. But you are a good welder, so may be you can repair the ones you have?

However, new fenders are good quality. I have them on my dexta and they fit well with no problems.

one of them is repaired now
the other is more work to repair than its worth
so I have one original good fender
I wil buy a new set and I wil set the restorec original one
originality is not nesesery to me

so my question was what can I ask fore a good original fender in hard condition
it dus needs to be repainted

You might get £50 for a good original fender. Suggest you put it on ebay and see what happens...
