Front hub puzzle

Another numpty question, sorry. When I put the front hubs back on after changing the kingpins, I noticed something was not quite right. The hub on 1 side seated right up against the spindle, overlapping the seat with no gap. On the other side it did not quite cover the seat. I put the hubs on the bench with a straight edge across them and they are different lengths.??

I noticed they have different part numbers
957e 1106
957 1103

I must be having a senior moment for I can't find the front hubs in the manual or parts list!

Are they supposed to be different for left and right?
Is 1 worn down?
or is 1 from a different type like the major?

Any advice greatly received.

Many thanks
John

Yes I agree it's a bit of a mystery - doesn't appear on parts list.
See here - if Stefan couldn't solve the mystery then there's no hope!

Hi,

my french Major parts list knows the hub as E1ADKN-1105 including the bolts and it seems to be the same part from 1952 on.

Front hub is listed under "Wheels" and is 957E1110 and runs from 1957 to end of production. However hubs from the 2/3000 will fit and that is what it looks like you have. She has had a new hub at some time.

Thanks chaps. Can I get away with these?

Longer hub, touches spindle, will rub

Shorter hub, covers dust seal, shy of spindle

Please can someone post a photo of the hub to spindle join so I can see what it's supposed to look like.

I appreciate all your help.

Thanks
John

hi been watching your post and am wondering if grinding abit off the longer hub
is possible , might be away around your problem if it is rubbing slightly

Thanks Sky Blue, I was wondering about that. I might have to give it a go. How much of a gap between the spindle and the hub do you have? I suppose the hub has to be long enough to co,ver the dust seal but short enough not to touch the spindle. I can't find a picture online with any kind of resolution for a close up view.

Thanks
John
