Crank end float,

Post by DextaJim »

Anyone have a comment on this please. The Dexta manual I have says "Crankshaft end float 0.00225 to 0.01025," Is that like 2thou to 10 thou, ??
Ask because on my rebuild my crankshaft has been reground at sometime +10. its quite ok with just new shells, but noticing excessive crank end float I got a set of 0.75 thrust washers, and on fitting them I could just get in a 2thou feeler , do you think this is too tight , and if I was to sand some off which face of the washer should it be,
Jim.

If you feel that its too tight use a valve cutting paste on a flat sheet of glass so you get the washer down true somewhere between 0.002 and 0.010 thou, around 0.005 I would be happy on, unless someone here knows better.
Don't just leave it in the shed, Fordson's are made to work, so take it out and work it....!
