sump pan dexta / super

Post by spike »

Hi im back again,
looking at changing oil over weekend got filter but was hoping to drop out the round plate on bottom of sump to remove the strainer, but when i had a feel round all i could feel was the drain plug :scratchhead: , so is the sump pan form my 1958 dexta the same as the pan for the super dexta ? but with out the round plate.

if i have this right the super has a pipe with a strainer fixed on the end and you have to remove the hole sump pan to get to it,
but the standard dexta has the round plate with the strainer fixed to it.

could some one have changed the pan and fitted a super sump pan, do they fit or did fordson change the the dexta pan to the super pan at some point ?

i dont fancy dropping the sump pan as i only have 2 hr spare to do oil change, from other posts it looks like front axle need to come off and engine may need supporting as the sump is structural to the engine and could crack the block if its not supported.

sorry for the long winded question, it looks like my old blue girl has had a few modifications made

many thanks

Only the early Dexta had the plate in the sump, all the others had no plate.

You won't crack the block by taking the sump off, normal place to support is under the clutch housing on some nice wooden blocks. Then you can take the whole front off.

You do not need to clean the sump filter, that is why the plate was deleted.

Hi ,I have been using my super dexta today for wood splitting and checked the sump and it has got a round plate fitted, maybe export.
Cheers Les.

My 1964 super also has a plate fitted (location Ireland)

any idea why - if it was only supposed to be on earlier models?

My late '61 has the round sump plate / strainer (def original), so think the change must have happened in '62, or later.
