Where is this tractor now

Post by ianpdexta »

I found this picture in the family album, I believe it was taken in 1962, possibly 1963. I think the Dexta was 1958 model. My Father bought it new from the 'South Yorkshire Motor Company' in Pontefract. My older brother is sitting at the steering wheel while I am standing on the footplate.

I think it was a single clutch model and it had a PUH and Winson cab fitted before being part exchanged in 1965 for a new 2000, the 2000 is still in the family.
I would love to know if VWY579 still exists and where.

Regards

Ian

The insurance database says that no vehicle of this reg is insured. of course this doesn't mean that it doesn't exist!

What a lovely pic Ian - my family had a camera but it was only used on our rare trips 'out'

It's amazing how well old photos can come out, this was scanned form a small print. My mother had the box camera, she used to have one film of 8 shots per year but always tried to make each picture a good one. Nowadays with digital, I take 8 pictures in one go.

Perhaps DVLA could tell you when it was last taxed?

Do you know to whom your father sold it?

I am always surprised with B & W scans and generally disappointed with colour print scans, so far I've scanned very few transparencies or colour negs so am undecided. :scratchhead:

Ben

It went back to the dealer, South Yorkshire Motors, in Pontefract. I think the local council bought it next, but I don't knoe how long they kept it. I'm not sure how to do a dvla check?

"WY" is a Yorkshire reg. It would be worth phoning the County Council and speaking to their archivist, who may be able to tell you when it was last taxed. I believe the DVLA can tell you (phone them) if it was taxed after about 1980.
