Outer Axle Bearing

Hi All,

I've not been on here for ages. Been making use of the Dexta and taking it a little bit too much for granted really. I need to tackle the axle oil seals and so had one of the axles out today to check which type of bearing retainer I had. Quite a straight forward job really, just a bit heavy and messy. Everything is as expected, although there is a lot of play in the bearing when it is out of the trumpet. Is this normal? is the play all taken up by the shims etc. or do I need to replace my bearings? They run lovely and smooth despite the small pile of grit I found backed up behind the bearing. I've done a video to demonstrate what I have...

I gave it all a half decent clean to save me too much hassle when I do the job proper, and put it all back together encase it has to do some work in the next week or so.

Thanks for any help :-)

Sam

Its a tapered roller bearing so the shims set the pre-load and control the play

That's what I thought but it seemed a bit excessive. Just inner seals and maybe a selection of shims then :-)
