stuck in reverse issue

I was reversing the dexta gently and stopped with a rear wheel against a gate post. I braked clutch in and attempted to change to a forward gear (low box)

Gear lever now stuck in reverse and won't budge

Any ideas please?

Would jacking it up to get some slack between the gate post and the tractor help ?

Or do I start to take the gear selector and cover off ?

Many thanks for any advice

Hi AlexB,

Most probably the gear lever has come out of the selector forks. You need to undo the 4 bolts on the gear lever plate and lift off the gear levers, you will find that one of the selectors is out of alignment and you need to get it back into the centre. You should be able to place the bottom of the gear lever into the selector and move it back into place.

The bottom of the gear lever gets worn over time allowing it to jump clear of the selector and then jams everything up leaving you stuck in gear. You can get it welded up and re-shaped and it will work fine again or just be very positive about how you move the lever between each gear.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Cheers Bob
I removed the cover plate and that seemed to "unlock" the levers.
Once I placed it - all was working nicely again

Panic over :)
